A list of restaurants is such a nonsensical thing to post while a major hurricane moves in.

My bad, you're right. I was eyeballing satellite.

No worries. GFS still uses relocation of the vortex. The advisory pressure is assimilated and then vortex is moved to advisory position and assimilated.

This looked liked a useful map for our Houston folks from the Wunderground blog.

More concerning is the 116kt average winds in the last 150m. If those make their way to the surface, you're looking at ~135mph winds.

yikes... what would it take for those winds to get to the surface?

That inner eye wall is holding on for dear life at this point, but the longer it stays, the more it will impede intensification.

Usually it just takes time. If the storm is strengthening/maintaining, they usually find their way to the surface.

No, they're getting realistic. What do you think is going to happen to those people if their house is damaged by a 130 mph wind gust six hours into an event that's going to produce at least tropical storm winds and rains for THREE frickING DAYS non-stop?

That's right. The structure is going to fail, they're going to be exposed to the full fury of that storm and they're going to have a very good chance of finding out if there's an afterlife.

Everyone says that wind doesn't bother them if the worst they've experienced is a cat 1 or 2 storm and they've never been through a bad hurricane. I GUARANTEE you that when the sustained 100+ mph winds start and that house begins to shudder and groan, the realization will sink in that it isn't a gust and the wind is getting stronger and just... won't... stop. At that point they're going to be wishing their brains had overcome their bravado and they were anywhere else but in that house on that coast because there's nowhere to go and nobody's coming to save them and all they can do is sit there in that house hoping it holds together.

That said, I hope the best for anyone who is riding it out, but... damn.

"Houston wants to be a part of this hurricane so badly. Look at us."

It's true. They were so jealous of New Orleans, when it flooded a few weeks ago. The next chance of rain, they had all the roving reporters out on the road, hoping to find something to talk about.
