That part's even worse. Housing is crazy expensive in Boston and it isn't cheap to fly out of Logan at the drop of a hat.

At least the dining hall workers are eligible for unemployment.

Just a FYI. My guess is the bulk of that endowment is restricted for a specific purpose made by the donor.

To circumvent that without the donor’s permission would put them in violation of IRS laws.

I’m sure they have “general purpose” endowments. But wanted to clarify they can’t just take $3 million from the endowment because they want to, no matter how noble the cause.

G, I know you’re right. And I know you definitely have a background to know what you’re talking about.

No matter what though, they’re losing a PR battle with this.

Comes with the territory of having $40 billion on hand

But I’m shocked they don’t have an employee/student relief fund.

I get that, but we’re talking about dining hall employees. This isn’t exactly a back breaker for them to find funding for.

I wonder how much that endowment is worth now

Probably $36-37 billion, maybe more. Endowments, especially of this size, aren’t like your 401K.

Except LSU.

There’s a thread where LSU won’t refund housing costs to students. That’s the flagship university in the heart of conservative country.

I’m willing to bet that if Harvard refuses to pay, an alum or group of alums will foot the bill. If those alums are progressive, what does that do to your argument?

My point is: why make every single thing about politics?

Also, this sentence is an understatement. A better way to phrase it is “Harvard University, which is the second-most wealthy non-profit organization in the world, behind only the Roman Catholic Church”

I don’t think the 2nd place ranking is correct. The Mormons have a $120B+ endowment (Ensign Peak Advisors) and the Gates Foundation is pushing $50B in endowment.

Regardless, Harvard has plenty of money to help their students and contractors. They should feel bad.

I had been told in the past they were, but I could very well be misinformed.

An elitist liberal university proves once again that they don't really give a shite about those beneath them? Shocking.

You are correct sir.

Estimates of LDS holdings are on the order of three or four times this amount.

Over $100 billion is the number I’ve heard.
