That monarchies still exist is an affront to my Americanness.
The French killed monarchs and ended the 700 year old Holy Roman Empire... all while we sat over here and chilled.

Has it been discussed she was a paid sex worker for a sheikh in Dubai?
Hahahahaha, I’m calling bs on that one. I’m pretty sure the royal family did an extensive back ground search on her and if that was true it would have been a problem. It is still an honor to be a child of the Prince of Wales. I would not have given up my spot in such a revered and respected position in the greatest empire of modern history.

This is a very cynical stance from an American that I know for a fact that a majority of Brits do not share.
The British half of my family all share it.

And I said the Queen is the legal sovereign of the UK, parliament acts like that, they treat and acknowledge her as such, and even swears an Oath to the Queen while acting as the political entity managing the day to day affairs of the state and the country.
Again, the de facto sovereign is Parliament, and has exercised its power as such since 1689. Why you avoid the de facto question is beyond me.

Not for the royal family who is amongst the most famous people on Earth and has a huge responsibility to be apolitical.
Ah yes, a sovereign head of state that has to be apolitical. Do you see how pointless that is, especially in de facto terms?

They're moving to Canada while he applies for his K1 visa.

The same parliament that has its MP's swear/affirm this oath out loud in public for all to see to be allowed to assume their elected position?

I, (Insert full name), do swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, her heirs and successors, according to law. So help me God.
That is the literal parliament swearing loyalty to the Sovereign. That's not helpful to your claim.
quote:
Why you avoid the de facto question is beyond me.
Because I never asked it. I just said that the Queen is the Sovereign of the UK, parliament acknowledges as such and treats her like it while acting as the political entity that manages day to day affairs of the state and country.
You went about about some defacto nonsense which I don't acknowledge when it comes to the question of who is the Sovereign of the UK.

Pointless is an opinion that has no bearing as to what is actually reality which you're arguing against.

All Harry knows how to do is be a prince. He's not fit for anything else.

Um she still has the right of royal assent (veto power), and is commander in chief of the armed forces of the UK,NZ,AUS, & Canada. All of the military swears an oath to her, not the country, and owns a hell of a lot of property in the UK.
She could do a lot with those things.

I never suggested otherwise.

I'm the one talking about reality, hence why I've insisted, and Parliament has affirmed for itself, a de facto position relative to monarchy. The primacy of Parliament was first affirmed after the Glorious Revolution, and has been affirmed continually since then. The monarchy does serve the function of presidents in parliamentary republics, with the key difference is that presidents are elected.
