I remember some of those ladies well. Back in the ‘70s our school used to do “paper drives” to recycle paper and it was a big thing back then. Kids would go door to door collecting old newspapers, magazines, etc., and the class with the biggest stack would win a prize. I was around 11 or 12 at the time. A neighbor told my dad he had a bunch of old Playboy magazines he was about to throw out. My dad told us if we were brave enough to go ask for them, we could keep them. So along with my brother who was a year older and 2 of our friends who were also brothers, we knocked on his door, played innocent, and said, “My dad said you had some old papers or magazines or something for our paper drive.” The guy asked if we were sure our dad said it was okay, then proceeded to hand over 50+ Playboys.
We kept them in an old wooden toybox in our shed. First night, the 4 of us had a campout in our little tent in the back yard (more than one tent was pitched that night) and looked at them with flashlights (no fleshlights). I got bold and hung the centerfold of Miss March (my birthday month) on my bedroom wall, but my mom made me take it down. Eventually we bragged about it too much and a few older kids raided us one night and stole all but a few that they dropped while climbing back over the fence.
Good times. Patti McGuire was my favorite back then - Playmate of the Year 1977.
