Lots of great songs, excellent voice but about as much stage presence as Roy Orbison who just stood there strumming his guitar and singing-------------and sometimes that's all that is necessary.

Happy Birthday George.....

Love George Strait. But there’s only one King George in country music and that would be George Jones.

You missed a golden opportunity to use the actual line from the song. “He’d be the first to tell you Bob Wills is still the king.”

George "Possum" Jones, along with Merle Haggard saved Country Music in my opinion. They put out a string of hits that revived that genre back in the 60's onward.

George was a massive hit machine back in the day. He didn’t write much but definitely put his stamp on every song. Growing up in Texas he was definitely the “king” in the 80s.

Funny that he’s not ranked higher “all time” with the sheer number of hits.

I’m not into country music but when my daughter worked for the Cowboys we got tickets and a suite to whatever event was being held there, I remember going to his final farewell concert there 7-8 years ago

Bob Wills is remembered as the King of Texas swing music.

Hank Williams is the undisputed King of Country music forever.

George Strait is a powerhouse artist and a living legend, possibly the last great country artist still alive and performing.

I saw him live at the Astrodome once, he put on an awesome show !

Another one of the greats with a distinctive voice no other could mimic. Watch his late 80’s special “A Black and White Night” with Springsteen, James Burton, Bonnie Rait, Jackson Browne, T Bone Burnett, k.d. Lang, Elvis Costello and others. It’s a classic, the tightest band you’ll ever see, you won’t be disappointed.

It’s obvious in the video that Springsteen and the other artists idolized Orbison.

I like George Strait but I hate that fricking song...but I have a good reason why.

I don't know if any of you guys also had this, but back in junior high, we had a six week section on dancing. No joke, we learned the two step, waltz and another one I can't remember. We were graded on this shite too. We were paired with partners and had to dance all around the gym. I was paired with a girl who was ugly, had hair shorter than mine and her armpits always stunk.

One of the songs we had to dance to(and heard it every fricking day) was "The Chair". I'm forever scarred.

Along with Tammy Wynette, and Merle, no doubt about this. Johnny Cash was a huge Merle Haggard fan and helped promote his early career.
