The Norway Sovereign Investment Fund is one if not the biggest in the world. While they are somewhat socially conscious about companies they buy stocks of its a pretty diverse portfolio. While we are here racking up national debt they are going to make every citizen super wealthy.

The average Dane pays 55% of his income back in taxes.
I think the major difference is that tax money there doesn't fund corrupt politicians' lavish lifestyles and a military industrial complex, so those citizens actually get to see day-to-day benefits from taxes paid.

I'm familiar as I go to Denmark every couple months. They also don't have nearly the innovation we have here. They were very successful before the high taxes took over and they're moving further to the right. They have strict immigration and have outlawed muslim headwear.
You can complain about our military complex all you want, but one of the reasons it's like that is because of the defense we provide countries like... Denmark. If they were on their own, what would their new effective tax rate be? 70%? They also tax the shite out of the middle class. Not very high corporate taxes, though.

I was in Norway a few years ago. A coke in a restaurant was around 9 dollars.In addition oil production puts a lot in government coffers. Once it dries up they will be in a different situation.
About the 55% tax though, I bet if you added every individual tax you pay the rate would be near 55%. Income state, income federal, social security, property tax, sales tax, etc...

Some here pay 1000 per month in health insurance. Some more. Some less. Some more property tax. Some more. Some less.
In Wales, for example, if you earn more than 10K you're on their scale. Pay your dues.
So what do they spend the money on?? Research what taxes are used for.. Their shite is on the whole waaaaay tightened up.

Northern Europe has higher than average suicide rates and higher than average antidepressant use. Not sure they're as satisfied as they claim to be.
