It goes both ways, really. While individuals are certainly responsible for their own actions, an entire generation of people growing up with certain negatives traits is a sign of a problem with the generation they were raised in.

I certainly doubt a roving band of children got together in the early 90s and demanded everyone got a trophy. It's because soft-arse parents didn't want little Timmy to get upset so they gave him a trophy, thus beginning a downward spiral of entitlement and never having to face the realities of life.

Yes, millennials are a soft and kinda shitty generation. But to act like the prior generation had no effect on the outcome of this generation shows exactly where millennials got the "well, it certainly isn't my fault" tendencies from.

The problem isn't really millennials. Every generation bitches about the generation under them. I am gen X, I remember baby boomers complaining about us and how we didn't work as hard as they did growing up. And that they had jobs while in HS that they started working full time the day after they graduated HS. And that only people who could afford to, went to college, etc.

Our parents had more than their parents, but we grew up thinking that you had to go to college to get a good career.

Our parents retired from the company they first started off working for and we thought that unlike our parents, we had to go to college then get that job that we will work at for 30+ years. We would build a family, and then retire so we can watch our grandkids.

At least in my experience, my parents company was a lot more loyal to them than companies are to their employees today. They paid less (I say this adjusting for inflation) for health care insurance and it wasn't as big of an issue as it is today where you pick your packages and you can pay more to get dental or eye coverage, etc. Or you can elect to pay less and not have dental, etc.

They grandfathered people in so it's not a thing anymore, but if an employee passed away or a retiree, they paid they widow a certain amount of money each month until they pass away. This is on top of their retirement, companies don't do that shite anymore.

Anyway, but back to millennials, they are just a product of their time.. And people say they see people's in their 30s who are on their phone all the time.. It's not just people in their 30s. I think the who addicted to our phones thing is spread out among everyone who has been alive when smartphones came out.

I'd figure it to be true. I don't know if there was a year from like 3rd grade to graduating where we didn't have a representative from a local college come in and tell us we were either going to go to college or dig ditches. Couple that with the ease of access to student loans and there were plenty of kids that went to school with no real direction besides "yay, I'm going to college like they said!". Most of those kids should have ended up a trade schools or hanging sheetrock.
