Elizabeth II was allowed to become an dheir and understood this concept well. that's why Charles was pressured into marrying Diana, a commoner. This idea of Royalty of the people is all orchestrated and that's how they have stayed relevant and in the spotlight of pop culture. Will marries Kate. Harry takes it even a step further marrying Markle. It's all one big show.

They would not have let anyone in a realistic position in line to the throne marry a black American that has been divorced.
On the other hand, any family in America that did some of what the Royal family has done would be mocked and laughed at. They've pulled some Kardashian level bullshite over the years. Maybe they are a bit on the trashy side too?

You're right. She was from distant nobility but still not royal or in line for a throne. She was also sold as a fairy tale wedding.
