I hate to hear this Stout. He's a beautiful dog. I hope everything works out for y'all and you get to have him around for a few more years. My oldest pup will be 10 next week and he's really starting to show his age. I'm beginning to prepare myself for the inevitable.

Yeah, ultrasound isn't ridiculous and its easy for dogs. We had to sedate our cat for the ultrasound.

So very sorry to hear this but I am holding out hope that it is not cancer. Had to put our 10 year old lab down last December. He had testicular cancer and the removed them - lasted another 2 years but it had spread.

I wouldn't jump right to the worst case scenario either. Could be a lot of things.

Damn I know what you are going through. Had to put 2 of my Goldens down at different times myself. Love those breeds.

I already paid for everything and it was a bit under $400. Pretty cheap actually with all of the test they completed and keeping him for 4 days to give him an IV with antibiotics.

That's dirt cheap.
I agree the U/S needs to happen soon - good luck to you and your dog. If they find something suspicious it is possible they'll need to sedate/anesthetize to take an aspirate (sample through needle) or biopsy. It will cost a bit more but will be worth it to know what's ahead of you.

I dealt with something similar this summer. My dog got so bad off all of a sudden one day this summer and preliminary tests showed some very nasty bloodwork results. Tests and injections and blood transfusions could have been done to buy her some time, but with the root cause of the issues likely being severe, we decided to put her down.
It was incredibly sad, but it was worse knowing she was probably going to be put down in the next few days. I felt a sense of relief once it was finally done.
The people at the vet make it a very comforting experience. Good luck.

I brought my dog in a month ago. Had the rear left leg amputated. He is doing great. Wish you the best of luck as well. Looks like ole boy has had a happy long life. if he has to go, make sure he doesn't suffer. Best of luck you both of you.

Any test results?
I'm assuming the blood work didn't indicate renal failure or you would have mentioned it.
We had a dog act like yours go into renal failure (that's kidney failure ) due to a poisoning by her eating toxic plants. Thought she was a goner due to the blood work indicating her creatinine levels were very high.
She ended up pulling through and she's doing fine now. But we are fairly certain she's had irreparable kidney damage.
