Does poison / bug spray work on them as an alternative to gas?

I put a rag over the hole when it’s settled down a little bit and poured gasoline in there through the rag. They couldn’t fly out. Came back a couple days later and removed the rag.

No more yellow jackets.

When I was 8(ish) I climbed a tree and disturbed a guinea wasp nest. Those mean suckers got me 57 times (once in a tear duct). My Grandmother took me to the Stanocola Clinic to get checked out. When we returned her neighbor was walking home with a bee suit and a WWII flame thrower. The plastic bird house where the nest was now lay melted in the grass. It made me forget about looking like I had chicken pox.

No. It just pisses them off. They must be burned.

At night with Diesel would have worked better!

For future reference.

I've had this happen about 3 times over the past 20 years in my yard. Those frickers hurt. An yes, I also got the gas can and a match.

The match is utterly unnecessary. The fumes from the gasoline will kill them. The fire can actually prevent the gasoline from working to kill all of the yellow jackets.

I have had a few of these ground nests in my backyard over the years.

I know the best way to kill them.

Get some mesh from your hardware store, like that would go in a screen door. Cut a hose sized hole in the middle.

At night, when they're calm, stake the mesh tightly into the ground with the hose hole over the yellow jacket hole. Squirt an entire bottle of Dawn soap in the hole. They'll start to freak out, but they can't escape. Then quickly replace the dawn bottle with the hose. Make sure there isn't a big gap in the mesh around the hose.

Crank on the hose and drown them in soap water.

I tried regular water and the frickers survived. This method kills em all for good.

I poured about a quart worth of gas down the hole threw a match and that’s when the onslaught transpired.
Just as Keiser Sosay handled matters, so did TIGRLEE.

3-4 got me good but I killed every other yellow jacket those 3-4 knew.
With fire. And gas.

its much more funny if you put a can of spray insulation in the ground and shoot it with a 20ga. It's the most redneck science experiment there ever was.

Disclaimer: don't do this if you live in a subdivision.

When I was young back in the olden days, I was messing with some equipment on the ground and there was a small yellow jacket nest. They came screaming out from behind this stuf headed straight for me. I was back peddling like I was Deion Sanders and flapping/swinging my hands at the yellow jackets. And like heat seeking missiles they made it through all that, about 30 feet from the nest, and 3 stung me right on my lower lip. Immediately it started to swell up. By the time I walked around the front of the house it was so big that it kind of flopped down. It couldn’t support its own weight and it was tight as a tick. Swelling continued to around the corners of my mouth and stopped there but it scared the crap out of me. I had to pass by work and one of the dispatchers said “now you know how it feel”.
Went to my doctor, everyone who saw me started laughing, and he gave me a shot of Benadryl and some steroids and it took 2 days to get back to normal

I used one of those bug zapper tennis rackets once and held it over their hole after stabbing a stick down it. Those frickers came out and got shocked one by one. Easily 75-100 died instantly but it fried my bug zapper and then they got loose. Came back that night with gas and lit them on fire. Never saw any again. Every time I mow over that hole I feel superior.

The best way is to find their entry/exit holes, take note of locations, and go back after dark. Yes, usually there are two. Put gas or diesel in a 2-3 liter soda bottle and stuff the neck in the hole. Both bottles drain and any poor bastards trying to escape will just be trapped in the bottle and die as well as those drenched in their lair.

Yep.

Also, I love all the stories people are telling about the one time they got stung. Some of you people have never had to climb into deer stands in the summer with nothing but a can of wasp spray and a stick . . . and it shows.
