Had a friend bring up an interesting perspective tonight on what is going on in America

Guy said he never really noticed people’s race in every day life. For instance just at the grocery store seeing an African American he never thought to himself about the persons race but that it was just another person, until the past 2 weeks. Says with all the violence going on and him identifying as a conservative he has begun to notice race and is more worried than ever that he might be attacked/persecuted for his beliefs. Says now he notices race more than ever and is always watching out because of what is going on. I can see where he is coming from and wonder how many people have this same feeling right now? Are the protest/looting increasing the racial divide in our country?
ETA: I believe what he meant was he obviously notices race but it’s just something that doesn’t even register or take a second thought in his head until recently.

I’d have stopped listening right there. It’s the absolute first thing anyone notices. Those that say they don’t see color are lying

You can notice it but it doesn't really mean much in the means of you going on about your life. I think his friend meant now him noticing is amplified. I feel the same way FWIW. I never gave it a second thought before but now I feel like things are heightened.

Privilege is being “colorblind”

How can whites be expected to recognize who our new Kangs and Queenz are if we can’t see color?

I'm worried about saying good morning to a black person in the wrong way and losing my job.

“Not seeing color” is soft racism

Has this dude been living in a cave the last 10 years? This isn’t something new. These thing spark up once a year at this point.

Your friend is a victim waiting to happen.
Politics aside ...
Life is kill or be killed. Predators and prey everywhere, everyday.
Be assured every time you step outside your home someone is watching. Everywhere, predators are looking for the easy prey. Just because the prey is oblivious to the predator does not mean the predator doesn't exist. But hey, if the ostrich sticks its head in the sand at least the predator won't eat the head, just the rest of the bird.
Now throw the gasoline of racial politics on the regular fire of todays political stresses ...
Now back to Marlin in the village having tea and cake with the native women while Jim wrestles the 12 foot anaconda in the crocodile pond.

quote:Well, living in La it's not a big deal. You see black people everyday of your life and you really don't think about what race they are. I just think about whether they are doing 68mph in the left lane or not.

You know what I notice?
Work boots. Work ethic. Drive.
There’s good men and women of every stripe and color working to provide for their families in this country. We come from different backgrounds, different faiths, different classes.
But the ones who are trying to divide us aren’t the ones busting arse. They aren’t the ones trying to hold shite together.
They thrive on chaos and want to tear us apart, drive a wedge between our common bonds and profit from the chaos.
And if we reject their machinations, if we stand against their propaganda and tyranny, and realize that there is brotherhood in good and decency, we can see that the ties that bind us are stronger than the forces trying to tear us apart
