The only place I shop in Tx.

Selection variety.
HEB brand alternatives
Meat market
Tortillas
Outside of self checkout, they still bag the groceries for you.

Went to HEB in NW Houston last weekend. Last time I was in HEB, decades ago, it was an inexpensive store, now their prices are like a gas station.

high end grocer for chefs (ours is equal to Central market)
Central Market is HEB's up-market grocery store.

Outside of wal mart, who is cheaper?

There isn't much central market branded stuff ours doesn't carry.

Walking thru the bakery and those things are being laid out on the shelf fresh out of the oven, its impossible not grab a stack. Hell its almost impossible not rip it open and roll up some of the brisket samples around one.

The only problem with HEB
The rear of the store is a major bottleneck
All HEBs have this problem

Absolutely this. Anytime I go through Texas for work I always stop and buy a shite tin of those and bring them home. I freeze a bunch and thaw as needed.

Going to an HEB compared to going to your average grocery store is the equivalent of going to a Metallica/Slayer/Pantera stadium show compared to going to a Nickelback/Creed co-headlining arena show.

If Publix were an 8 year old Auburn football fan in the early1980s, HEB would be Bo Jackson.

On top of all the correct replies so far, the one near me was open during Harvey and managed the rush of anxious shoppers like true professionals. I stopped going anywhere else at that point.

The only problem with HEB
Their bagged lettuce doesn’t seem to last as long as other places.
The brisket queso dip in the prepared meals section
Their HEB coffee
Lots of choices of frozen healthier bread
Two varieties of unhealthy frozen garlic bread my kids love
Texas shaped tortilla chips for the queso dip

Only thing I don’t like about H-E-B is it is always too damn crowded. Even with the wide aisles feel like there are oblivious people everywhere. If you are just running in for a couple of things it is a royal PITA.

It’s no one thing, it’s just that everything is done well and it’s a good price. It’s clean and fresh and consistent.
