Actually, the science behind the study that’s oft cited wasn’t geared towards that anyway.
That was a fear mongering bit where media parsed the study and used what suited them.
It wasn’t a study to evaluate general effectiveness of masks but rather had a different objective. Only one person, wearing one type (a particularly thin one at that). No controls along that angle, because again, that wasn’t the hypothesis they were testing.

But you miss the point: even if (IF) it’s not effective, it’s still more comfortable and gets the mask police off your back with no drama.

Pretty simple to me. Store is serious about it, don’t check him out. He can go to another store. He choses to take stuff without paying, free ride to jail for shoplifting
