Why on earth would the promoters of this show think they could justify playing/selling tickets to fill the Superdome? U2 in their primes couldn't even come close.

New Orleans is a horrendous rock town

Because that crowd was still a huge crowd. It wouldn't have fit in the Smoothie King Center, and there's no venue I can think of halfway in size between Smoothie King and the Dome. It's play the dome or skip the entire Gulf coast until you get to the Houston show.

That's why.

There was still a huge crowd. The haters who are saying, "they didn't sell out the Dome, blah blah blah" don't have a fricking clue.

Everyone I sat by were happy about the seat changes and raving about what a great show it was. Most people had paid less than $100 for their original seats and were being given seats that were $300 and up. Bottom line is that is was an amazing show and those who were complaining were a very small minority.

According to The Wall Street Journal, of the 25 shows the reunited GUNS N' ROSES is playing this summer as part of its "Not In This Lifetime" North American tour, twelve have sold out or are close to it, and concert promoter Live Nation Entertainment says it expects to sell out five more. The average ticket price so far is $130.

quote:

Asked by Fortune for a comment, Live Nation responded with the following statement: "GUNS N' ROSES' 'Not In This Lifetime' tour is an unqualified success. Not only is it the #1 rock tour of the summer, it will be one of the top-grossing tours of 2016 and one of the most successful reunion tours of all time. At six shows into the tour, it has already grossed more than $100,000,000 in ticket sales. Live Nation expects to surpass 1 million tickets sold and we congratulate the band on this monumental achievement."

Roux told The Wall Street Journal that Live Nation expects to sell one million tickets, or roughly ninety percent of tickets available, for the "Not In This Lifetime" tour. He added that some of the less well-attended shows were the result of the band playing cities it wanted to play, rather than sticking to the highest population centers that would better guarantee sellouts.

My upgrade was directly below my previous section so it wasn't a big deal. We walked in at 8:30 because I didn't care about the Cult and wanted to be in my seat with beers by 9:15 for GNR. Well they told us to find the longest line in the world to get our new tickets. I refused to wait in the line and walked all the way to the front, got my tickets and went to the beer line. It looked like some people waited well past 9:30 to get their new seats. Shitty job of sales. Overpriced the arena and it was way too big for demand.

I don't get why they would close the upper deck off? what do they have to gain from giving people crappier seats?

It's all about optics. Usually stuff like that is done so there aren't a shitload of empty seats in the most visible areas in front of the band. It's much easier to make it look like it's sold out for pictures when you pack everyone down below instead of letting them spread out.

It's not that different than when a sports team (usually NBA or NHL) lets people move down into the lower decks of a game that has a ton of empties in the lower bowl. (though its almost always b/c of some random weather event that causes the lack of people in those cases)

I don't know anyone who had a good experience at a G&R show. Period.

Well I'll fix that for you.

A lot of people here just seem like they're wanting to rip on GNR. Maybe some folks had trouble getting in if they got reassigned, but we did not see that, so I can't speak to it.

All I can say is that we purchased seats well in advance, lower 100 level looking straight at the stage. The show was incredible and much better than I expected. Entry line at Plaza level was short and fast moving. Concessions were decent, the band sounded great and put out 100% effort, security was active, and we had a great time. Parking was not an issue if you're familiar with dome traffic. We left as Paradise was ending and got out with zero delays.

I feel bad for those that had a tough night, but everyone I talked to who attended agreed it was a fantastic show. I am usually a nega-type but I felt we got our money's worth, and I was glad to see the guys looking and performing so good at that age.

I think your story is more of the rule and not the exception in this case. I'm very glad to have seen them and wouldn't have had a problem paying more.

Dome is awful. I remember for the BCS game against Bama it took us forever to get in our seats. Not the same issue when we played Ohio State. Got right in and to our seats. I thought I was going to have to bust a few gumps arse outside the dome before the game cause they kept bitching and shoving people.

Did they play Patience?

Yes, they did in Atlanta. First song of the "encore."

I parked about three blocks away. There was of course a ton of traffic on Poydras but I was on the interstate in about 20 minutes.

Overall the Superdome and NOLAPD did a good job with everything. I had no problems getting in or out.

i imagine its not just the crowd but also the staging that would be an issue if trying to move a stadium show into a smaller arena for a select date.

Same here. Row 6 directly in front of those horns. I could see the sweat dripping from Axls balls.
