No ban in Orange Beach. Just avoid the Gulf Shores beaches and you will be fine.

Having done Spring Break there in college, I would be pissed if I were a kid, but I don't blame them. The amount of commotion and shite these punk kids do to the rental properties is really unbelievable.

Last years ban didn't start until two weeks in to the season. It did get pretty bad down here with the stereotypical D-Bag spring breakers. The ones who just wanted to come relax had little to no issues.

I don't agree with the ban, but I understand it. When kids are posting videos of themselves taking dabs in the Gulf Shores PD parking lot while bailing their friends out....it tends to piss the locals off.

The 3 week ban was a response to all the college kids leave piles of trash all over the beach. Plus I think someone died an that viral video of that dumbass hitting a cop with a football

Yeah we go in March every year to visit a client a few hours and spend the weekend on the beach. Just happened to be the weekend a kid died last year. We saw kids being stupid and leaving everything on the beach. So I understand it. But I wanna drink some beer and relax so I don't wanna deal with cops. I'll just make sure we aren't in gulf shores.

FWIW, my buddy lives in OB and was on the beach this past weekend and was told alcohol is not allowed. Apparently it will be strictly enforced. So I imagine they'll be watching for folks with coolers pouring beers/booze into a cup.

I live on the beach in Gulf Shores in pretty much the central location of Spring Break. Even after the ban last year, we still brought booze on the beach. They aren't targeting young professionals and families. They are discouraging large groups (200-300) of kids that gather and party together that stresses emergency personnel. I have a feeling if businesses see lost revenue this spring break, they will be revisiting this ban in the future.

Alcohol has always been illegal on Orange Beach beaches. It is just selectively enforced. I'm interested to see how strictly they enforce it on the older crowd during spring break.

You'd think spring break would be one of their peak times for business, and they'd want to be a little less restrictive.

you'd think the spring break crowd would be little smarter when drinking on the beach. But they aren't so they aren't wanted. The windfall of revenue young people think they provide pales in comparison to the damage and annoyance they cause. Quite simply, they aren't worth it. Take the hint and go somewhere else.

They cant enforce this on a private beach.

Private beach extends out to average high tide line.

Orange Beach, whose beaches are dotted with more condos and fewer popular Spring Break haunts than Gulf Shores, has not implemented and outright ban of alcohol on its beaches during Spring Break. But Fierro said the police activity will be heightened, with additional support from the Baldwin County Sheriff's Department and State Troopers.

There arent really any clubs or attractions like other big spring break spots, so 30 kids in one condo, who all purchased their beer from out of town, dont really contribute much.

Hell, even Hangout fest doesnt contribute as much as you would think, but they give a lot of money to local government, so they get a pass. Spring breakers, dont.

Its a slow time of year down there but I'm sure there would be a band somewhere. Just ask the Google.

From what I read, its not about the money they do/don't spend. its the damage and problems the cause. The locals don't want a bunch as assholes tearing shite up and being noisy in the process. Thats what other beaches are for, not GS/OB, apparently. I can't blame the locals.
No different than the reaction some in NOLA have towards Essence Fest or Bayou Classic

its both and more.

Mommy or Daddy sign the leases, the owners dont know until its too late. Last year, someone we knew, had a hole knocked out between their unit and another, so the students didnt have to go outside. We have condos down there, but my good friends run the complex and live around the corner, so it is watched heavily. Hangout fest, the widespread panic year, hit us pretty bad. We have been cautious since.

The mid to big sized complexes arent as lucky sometimes.

Businesses dont make any money and potential tourist are scared off by media surrounding the spring breakers. They are the ones supporting the local law makers though.

Orange Beach doesn't have any kind of ban. It's also not like cops in Gulf Shores are going to walk up to random middle-aged people minding their own business on the beach to see if they're drinking. Just don't be dumb.

All of these laws killed spring break on the gulf coast. If you want to have fun now you've gotta go out of the country.
