Pretty sure this has been covered here before, but guilt tipping is basically when counter service places have you add your own tip before you can proceed on their little kiosks. I’ve seen them pop up more and more at your sort of medium level food places, but never at a fast food restaurant where tipping is essentially non existent.

Went into 5 guys today and they had new little registers and payment kiosks and with that now comes the option to tip before I’m done paying. Is this the end of the world? No. But it’s annoying as hell at a place that’s already definitely overpriced trying to squeeze me for more. For what? For me to drive to you, wait, and you to hand me my food over the counter?

Tipping is supposed to be for above and beyond service for waiting on you for an hour or for a driver delivering food to your door. Tipping counter service places for basically no service is something that just gets to me and grinds my gears. Tipping for fast food is beyond the pale

As bad as guilt tipping may be, it's nothing compared to white guilt tipping.

I tipped 20% at Subway today because they made my sandwich to my exact specifications without me having to repeat myself

5 guys is OK but not for the money. My wife use to get it for us fairly regularly until I saw a receipt. We haven't had it in a couple of years and I imagine it is worse now.

if the order taker on the intercom is pleasant and professional in a drive thru I usually give a dollar or two

They are totally delicious. This board is dumb to say otherwise. But they are overpriced.

5 guys at least had an option for 5%, I’ll click that every time if it’s offered, some places start at 15%. At a place where they bring food to the table and clean tables I’ll usually add 3 bucks.

I question whether or not 100% of any tips, outside of a waiter at a restaurant, go to the staff. I could see the subway owner keeping it as extra revenue for them, or only paying out a part of it.

I’ve been beaten down into tipping at coffee shops, fast casual restaurants, etc. but I’ll have no problem not tipping for fast food. Those aren’t real people who work there

Yea that's a hard no from me. I only tip if you bring me food or drinks, so door dash, pizza, sit down restaurants and sonic. I'm not going to tip a person who's doing their job behind the counter that I walk up to. How much they make is between them and their employer
