Without knowing anything bouchea, i can tell you where you got yo shoes

It was a thing, now it’s not.

It’s no different in New Jersey or Long Island
Most OTers are transplants in TX or FL or something and associate with other transplants, so they don’t know/think it happens there

I’ve come to realize this is a standard part of New Orleans “culture” or something. But it seems like a weird thing to be proud of as a city-wide phenomenon. Like why is it cool or quirky to obsess over HS years later?
dick measuring contest, that gives some sort of nostalgic validation... it's weird

Its not really weird. People who live in the area they grew up in most likely have high school in common with their neighbors, not college even if all parties have advanced degrees.
The common connection is the HS.

no, i get that.... that i can understand.. but the better than you attitude some have when they learn that someone else went to a perceived inferior school, or a cheaper school, or a smaller school, etc... that's what's weird...
like thinking you are better than the next person b/c you went to good or expensive HS, and other didn't... like, that shite was 20+ years ago, why should that have any bearing on the current, as far as status, ego, etc?
that's the part that most of find bizarre

Oh yeah, I get that. Indeed it its.
I'm still in touch with some of my old HS buddies. Most of them played college baseball, but our common interests are where we attended together. My best bud is a high flying salesman in the West Texas oilfields, whenever he gets drunk he calls and reminisces over the same old stories... And I love it.

Easily put, still broke and in debt.
People who have nothing else going for them bicker about high school lol
This is embarrassing.

This is also a common thing in San Antonio.
Also common in Hawaii.

It starts as early as lower school (primary school). After living away and then coming back I find myself cringing at how many people tout their kids schools on their cars with stickers, yard signs, and door wreaths.
It’s also a form of gatekeeping. I was once told in early HS by a fat Newman kid I wasn’t “from” New Orleans because I went to school in Metairie. Even though I lived uptown

When I go to a bar people always ask where youwent to high school.
They are usually Mexicans that went to some ghetto school.
When I say Alamo heights they look down in shame. Lmao

This is actually common in smaller cities and towns. It’s a way to profile someone you meet. It never bothered me and if the asking person has an issue FCUK em

Archbishop Shaw, mostly working-class boys with a fair number going into the military.

I just say Scotlandville Reform, it gets more respect than CHS or Jesuit.
Posted on 9/9/25 at 6:25 pm to _Hurricane_
There’s those that went to Jesuit and St Aug and then everyone else.

The reason we ask when meeting someone is that you instantly know a shite load of information about an individual based upon which high school they went too.

Seeing if they know some of that same people

Only if you went to Alamo heights or St Mary’s Hall.

I think this is fairly true for most major cities. It's basically apart of meeting someone and knowing what area they grew up in. It's also a real easy convenient and easy way to see if you have any mutual associates. "Oh, you went to Xyz school in 2007? Cool! I have a cousin who went there at that time. Sheryl, did you know her? Anyways, how was it at that school, growing up in that area?"
Really, it's just simple small talk, really not deep at all.
