Because?

They are uncomfortable
Conformist
Can’t be thrown in wash
Expensive
They do zero to assist in productivity
I don’t go to church.

I would never work somewhere that required them. I did once. You were expected to put your coat on to go to the bathroom.

The people I know who do this have medical problems that prevent them from putting on dress shoes.

Generally I wear dress shoes during the non snow season, but sneakers during the snow season. I've ruined two nice pairs with oil snow.

Except that’s all in your head in fairy tale world. If you’re the beta in the situation they will see right through you no matter what. If Michael Jordan shows up to a c-suite negotiable with a suit and Jordan’s you think that changes a single damn thing?

So then why does MJ dress like a boss! He set the standard back when he was playing of showing up to games dressed in a suit.

And no I am not a “beta” and I don’t dress like a clown when I have important meetings.

What's wrong with the world is grown men caring too much about insignificant stuff that doesn't affect them at all.

On the one hand, yes, we should leave each other alone. That’s a cornerstone of our culture. We let people be, and that’s a good thing.

At the same time, their families should have taught them better, and held them accountable.

People started writing about this in the 40s and 50s, but in the west we saw a increasing number of adult men who never grew up. It is a cultural problem, and I don’t fully understand it, and why it happened.

Still.

In traditional societies there were certain mechanisms that pushed men into adulthood. For an Indian, it was a training program, a test , and then an actual ceremony, with the men of the tribe, and once you completed it, you took on the burdens and responsibilities of an adult.

Here in the west, those mechanisms no longer exist, or they’ve been watered down to the point of uselessness.

Look at how groups like the Boy Scouts, who taught boys the skills necessary to be man, have faded or died.

Another problem, in traditional societies, men are taken aware from their mothers at this point and pushed through these programs - which are male only. It’s important that they be male only, because the skills they’re taught are gender specific, and the responsibilities are gender specific.

We’ve broken these mechanisms, in our own society, by making them co-ed.

VMI once upon a time taught boys how to be men. It can’t do that now - because the experience is now designed for women. It’s incapable of giving the men toughening up they need.

Also, by making them co-ed, were telling boys that women no longer need our protection. This has many perverse effects, one of which is that it teaches a certain kind of selfishness.

It’s ultimately unsurprising that so many men act like boys well into their adulthood, because we’ve stopped expecting them to be men. We’ve stopped teaching them how to be men.

I hate wearing suits. However, I would never be caught wearing running shoes with one.

Completely classless.

And for anyone that says the running shoes are more comfortable, they've never had a quality dress shoe.

I'd put Johnston & Murphy up against any athletic shoe for comfort.

I’m a stick in the mud, and I like suits, but I respect that.

If I’m wearing a suit, it’s a show of respect.

Stop buying your dress shoes at Walmart.

I have a few pairs of Rockports that are real comfortable. You can be on your feet all day in them.

except if you’re from Texas

Also if you’re under 30, it’s okay to wear expensive Jordans with a suit. Hell, you see females wearing sneakers out now

Me too. I own one and wear it as little as possible. I think I've probably had it on twice in the past 10 years.
