Are they buying them at Petco? Can't imagine there are herds of feral Guinea Pigs running around NYC, but you never know. Wouldn't imagine that would be very cost-efficient if so.

They procreate at a wild pace. If you bought 4-5 at a pet store, you could have a shite load in short order.

quote:

Guinea pigs are extremely prolific breeders, reaching sexual maturity as early as 3–4 weeks old. Gestation lasts about 59–72 days (roughly 9–10 weeks), and females can conceive again within 2–15 hours of giving birth. They can produce up to five litters per year

I've eaten it twice; once in Peru and once in Ecuador. It's honestly not bad.
The joke is, "tastes like chicken," but it truly does taste like roasted dark meat chicken.

I like how I'm supposed to clutch my pearls over a lean protein source but mystery tube meat sitting in lukewarm water all day is peak American experience.

I ate one in Peru. Mine was a little dry but not bad. They are a good source of protein that require much less space for raising them.

If I recall, real video but many years old and not NYC

I think we see it here like two to three times a year

If I'm thinking of the right video, it's usually a twitter embed claiming that people are cooking rats on the streets in NYC, which is even better

None. There have simply been so many that claimed to be NYC that weren't that I mostly ignore them now. Would be really easy for the person taking the video to turn around for a little context. Hell, show me a street sign. If they don't, I usually assume it's on purpose. Burden of proof is on he who makes the assertion and whatnot.

Claim it’s “old”, without offering any proof, then acting like that delegitimizes what the video shows.

Rage bait should be called out every time it's posted, regardless of the subject matter. Proof doesn’t even matter to some people. That Arkansas fan, "hawg"..something posted a tweet this morning that had the reader's context attached below calling it bullshite, and even still, the first handful of posters responded like it was truth.

i bet it was clipped for social media and original is longer. regardless, seems like there’s plenty of evidence in this particular video to prove that isn't the case here.

I agree. I wish people would hold the national media to the same standards.

Quite possible. With that said, let's assume it's 100% in the middle of NYC. I'm not sure three assholes on a sidewalk constitutes "becoming popular". Does that mean it's not wildly popular in NYC? Nope. Very well could be. But I'm about a decade past giving ragebait engagement focused social media posts the benefit of the doubt.
