Cage goes in the water, you go in the water, shark in the water. Our shark.

Farewell and adieu to you fair Spanish ladies...

I’ve always thought the gaps in those bars were too wide. There’s always one big open area and I’m like why?

It's not the shark, it's the owner.

There's a far less intense/dangerous tourist version. The cage is basically attached to the side of the boat. The bars are fairly close together (though you can easily fit your arm through, so don't be an idiot), and instead of using scuba gear, you have a snorkel. You're less likely to get up close to one of the 20ft+ monsters, but you'll get pretty friendly with some 12-14 footers, which I promise in real life is plenty big enough

Seeing that shark just fall to the bottom of the ocean was eery to me for some reason.

PETA will be out with a statement requesting new industry standards for shark friendly cages.

I am not a PETA fan, but it is stupid incidents like this that probably gave the organization a reason to exist.

Absolutely horrible to watch, having seen these magnificent animals up close and personal.

We had a few bump the cage, but thankfully nothing like this.

If you can, do it. I can’t explain how awesome it is to see them rise out of the deep and come right next to you in the cage. Being that close to an apex predator is truly magnificent.

Be sure to select a reputable operator, though, as some of them skirt the regulations and create dangerous situations for the animals.

Agree completely. No reason for that. I think those two divers should be sacrificed for shark food.

I know it's early but I'm awarding you post of the day.

I don't think anyone's topping that.

Upvote deployed.

What exactly happened here that was wrong by humans? How often does a shark die like that? So we shouldn’t view or study sharks from cages now because one dumb shark got stuck?

Mexico actually has some pretty stringent regulations for operators that possibly weren’t followed here. The maximum distance between horizontal bars for cages is 14 inches specifically to prevent entrapment by even juvenile males.
