Ok. Any idea why they are hiring back?

No. There could be various reasons depending on location and role.

Some offices may need the additional software oversight and maintenance; Nashville and Birmingham were offline for an entire day last month due to system upgrades. Some people may have quit because they can't/won't pull extra hours when needed.

Point is, you can't blanket assume they're rehiring just because DOGE screwed up.

They are hiring back more than 125 people. That's a significant reversal.

All these TV "meteorologists" depend on models these days, the true art of meteorology is the guys behind the scenes...

Weren't over 500 positions cut originally? That seems more like a measured reversal.

Fair enough. This level of rehiring seems to be pretty common among many departments. For sure the federal workforce is reduced, but at least 20% of DOGE firings are being reversed.

I read the other day that the feds are quietly rehiring NWS meteorologists that DOGE recklessly fired.

It really doesn’t matter what’s predicted when levees fail.

This is BS. There will be 0.0% impact on forecasting

Even if it were true they don't even rely on the models they have today!

Instead, our society shuts down half the East Coast or Gulf Coast, (even outside of the cone of uncertainty) when a storm is within 500 miles of the coast. So what’s it matter if the forecasting is impacted? Really.

They always say, “don’t count on the storm turning” even if the model suggests it. And this joker is saying he would not be able to accurately tell people it will turn and they will be safe. He would be telling his audience preparer for a total catastrophe 100 out of 100 times.

This is getting downvoted to hell, but it is fact. They're rehiring some and will be filling 125 positions with a request (that is likely to be granted) to hire quite a few more.

Did they rehire that park ranger who was the only one with a bathroom key? Or are people still stuck in the bathroom?

The offices were always staffed for significant weather events. Most offices don't need to be open 24 hrs with full-time overnight staff. That's where cuts came in.

Yeah, that's not really the full picture.
