"Because if it's not contained in the next couple of weeks it will be completely out of control and Texas will have to ratchet back," Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on @NBCDFW just now on dramatic spike of COVID-19.
quote:
Abbott on the possibility of shutting down again: "If we are unable to slow the spread over the next few weeks, then we will have to re-evaluate to the extent to which businesses are open."
quote:
"..the most important thing we've got to do...we've got to protect lives," Gov. Abbott says on a day where almost every single COVID-19 indicator is terrible in Texas.

downvote away, but there is a direct correlation between where spikes are happening bad in texas and where people are most likely to have family from mexico/visit mexico.

Both sides of the aisle have lost their collective minds

I hope Louisiana closes the border just for shits and giggles

Imagine you left La because you couldn’t get a job, then went work at a WhataBurger in Beaumont then your governor shut down your state sad

The Spike now is from the protests. It will subside, thus the next couple of weeks warning.
deaths are still not trending the same path as infections.

Dan Patrick just said on Fox they would not “go backwards” but would be slow to move forward

It’s no coincidence that three of the “hottest” states are border states with Mexico starting to get “hot” simultaneously. And I’m not suggesting it’s illegal immigrants. Lots of US ex-pats and/or green card holders living in Mexico coming home for treatment (hospital numbers), or legal migrant workers coming over for agricultural work.

It’s true
Hays county is seeing more cases than Travis county. Hays is south of Travis where austin is
Could be also that no one gave two shits about masks outside of austin

Yeah and hopefully it stays that way.
Still doesn’t look good.

Rate of Hispanic cases continues to climb. A week ago I had it tracked at 32.9 percent of all known cases in the U.S. As of today it's up to 34.4%. The Hispanic/Latino population accounts for 19% of the population based on 2020 estimates in the CDC Wonder database.

So what about previous spikes in Louisiana or New York? Or Florida right now?

There is also a direct correlation between Abbots possible upcoming shutdown moves and him wanting to be elected governor again in two years. He trying to stay in the middle and that is not a good place to be.

From your link as it pertains to Texas aka the subject of this thread:
At best it’s a guess.
quote:
Meanwhile, in Texas, where a spike is almost universally attributed to the lifting of economic lock-downs, the number of Covid-19 hospitalizations in trauma service areas along the Mexican border more than doubled to 886 of the state's 3,711 hospitalizations in just the past week, according to state health data. It's unclear how many more were transported to facilities in the Texas interior to free up beds along the border as the apparent influx from Mexico continues.
At best it’s a guess.
