Did the exact same thing two years ago. Farm Bureau tripled my premium. Told
me it was across the board and
Nothing I could do about it. Switched to USAA.

Only down side to USAA is that their auto insurance is expensive, but I’m still paying less than Farm Bureaus policy premium to have everything covered.

Like you, I too am ready to leave Louisiana in the rear view mirror. It’s just not worth it anymore.

The bullshite part is the deductibles for hurricanes are percentage based at 5% so the only real reason anyone ever files a claim- is going to run most people over 20k

Mine is still flat 1000$, they told me I’m grandfathered in and nobody will do that anymore which is why I haven’t changed yet. Mine is more in the 4k range I think, but it does keep going up

You should see if you can get a policy without wind and hail coverage. Chances are a wind/hail loss in LA if you keep a serviceable roof and don’t live under trees will be manageable.

Fire loss is not manageable.

Also cut down any trees that may fall on the home if you do not have insurance.

Landrys number one goal this session is to make Tim Temple look as weak and as feckless as possible and keep the plaintiff attorneys who have him in their pockets as fat and happy as possible. And so far he’s accomplishing both.

I have State Farm and they are even worse for homeowners in Louisiana.

Luckily, I just sold my place yesterday after four days on the market in Gonzales, LA.

So I am a sell out.

I’ve been living in Bend OR for the last year, keeping my house in Louisiana vacant.

I feel privileged to leave Louisiana.

Nope, not CEO -- If I was, I certainly would not be living here. I would have moved long ago.

Seriously? I thought for sure you are the CEO of USAA

it's amazing to me how many people just pay the premium and don't shop rates
My rates haven't gone up for years from $3,600 per year for 650k coverage of the dwelling and 250k for contents. Don't most companies bait you in with cheap prices the first year or 2 then start raising?

Check your policy coverages. The insurance company will try to over cover you. USAA will only let you chose between 50 or 75% of structure coverage for furnishing. No one has $500K worth of furniture, appliances and TVs in a $675K home. Also, they figure total loss as cost to rebuild from scratch. I have slab foundation with stucco over block. If whatever event requires me to totally scrap and start over, I'm moving, seriously.

Wind mitigation?

I'm in Orleans Parish and have my wind/hail policy through Citizens. 100+ year old house and put a new roof on it after Ida. My agent suggested getting this done and it made a MASSIVE difference. I think the company I used is called Wind Mitigation Surveyors

Where is your house located? This is a big part of the equation.

You are very wise to move away from Louisiana. I do not recommend raising a family here.
