Got an Innocent Explanation (Neighbor-Related)?

Last year a 40-year-old couple bought the most expensive house in the neighborhood, on a hill across the street.
Other than a weekly landscaping crew, no one is ever there except for the husband - who visits once every 3-4 weeks, always after dark, for about 30 minutes each time.
Sometimes he leaves the porch light on, then turns it off a few weeks later.
Can the OT suggest an explanation (other than MYOFB) that doesn't involve corpses, drugs, guns or cash?

I’m not sure how you missed “mistress” in that list, but definitely mistress.

second home. visits periodically to make it look "lived in" to keep the critters from breaking in.

I would assume Rick just uses a portal gun to get there then since there is little obvious activity otherwise.

quote:Tax rate. Live out of state, but own the property to claim as primary residence to take advantage of lower or no state income tax without having to move to the area. Nice enough they can move it or move in if they need to lessen their overhead, but not where/what they want as a primary. Or if in Louisiana they have a son who will "live with seperated parent at the address" because he is too good to be the backup at xyz private school he is currently at.

Does it have land? Might just be a vacation spot they haven't utilized much.
Or the dude uses it to bang mistresses.

If they tarp it for pest control they are probably cooking meth.

Future relocation coming up. Wanted to buy before interest rates continued up. Husband comes to visit and take pics and plan renovations they will make. Porch light is just an oversight when he forgets to turn it off.

Probably a pre-emptive purchase before mortgage rate hike. You should go ask your new neighbor for financial advice

Does it have an electric meter that can be read without tresspassing or getting photographed by a security camera? The amount of power used would tell you something (likewise gas meter or water meter.)

quote:Possibly true. They spent a crap-ton on the place so it could be the husband checking up on the landscaping crew.

I had a neighbor couple who did the same thing for a while. They were on the verge of retiring and lived in a city a few hours away. Their son and his family lived in my town and the homeowners’ plan was to move here after they retired. However, they found a deal on a house for sale that they couldn’t pass up so they bought the house even though it would be almost a year before they’d move in full time. They’d come down on some weekends to visit their son’s family and would spend some time at the house. They ended up retiring earlier than planned and are great neighbors.
