Google self-driving car gets rear-ended in 13th accident since 2009

"We just got rear-ended again yesterday while stopped at a stoplight in Mountain View,” Jacquelyn Miller, a Google spokeswoman, wrote in a statement sent to Ars and other media. "That's two incidents just in the last week where a driver rear-ended us while we were completely stopped at a light! So that brings the tally to 13 minor fender-benders in more than 1.8 million miles of autonomous and manual driving—and still, not once was the self-driving car the cause of the accident.”
In light of this new accident disclosure, the company has created a new website devoted to reporting on the self-driving car project.

I'd like to know how the cops there handle this. Do they wait for a google representative to show up on the scene?

Yep, I've got more than 1.8 Million miles driven, and have only had 1 accident that was my fault.

Defensive driving is a real skill. I have avoided a few crashes and one rear end colistion. I was watching the approaching car and moved.
I wonder if they can program for that.

February?: A Google Lexus model AV was travelling northbound on El Camino Real in autonomous mode when another vehicle travelling westbound on View Street failed to come to a stop at the stop sign at the intersection of El Camino and View Street. The other vehicle rolled through the stop sign and struck the right rear quarter panel and right rear wheel of the Google AV. Prior to the collision, the Google AV’s autonomous technology began applying the brakes in response to its detection of the other vehicle’s speed and trajectory. Just before the collision, the driver of the Google AV disengaged autonomous mode and took manual control of the vehicle in response to the application of the brakes by the Google AV’s autonomous technology. The Google AV was in manual mode. No injuries were reported at the scene. The Google AV sustained some damage.

Still can't believe chicken was (or is) so anti-self-driving car. A guy as progressive to create a site like this but can't see the forest through the trees with this technology.

In all seriousness though, I think Uber has already begun projects with self-driving vehicles.
