Why is Mississippi's Taco Soup?

Saw an Alton Brown show a few years ago where he did a segment on TexMex or or some such, maybe sandwiches even since tortillas are a form of sandwich bread. ETA: "Tamale Never Dies"; Good Eats

Seems Mississippi has had a long history of Spanish/Mexican influence on their cuisine. Stems from slavery and the Spanish ownership of Louisiana/the River/GOM area.

Both poor Spanish/Mexicans and slaves worked the fields in MS and shared the scrap meats and veggies and thus the overlap in cooking recipes and such over time.

Taco Soup would undoubtedly stem from that history.

He’s using it possesively. For once, the comma works. Just “Mississippis” would be incorrect.

Although the sentence could use an object tacked onto that possessive since it makes no sense out of context.

Why is Mississippi's Taco Soup?

There is a large Mexican population in the Memphis/North Mississippi area.

Broccoli Salad for Alabama? Wtf is this shite, I've never heard of anybody eating such a thing.

Also they have buckeyes for Indiana instead of Ohio, and Ohio has sausage gravy which i thought was a southern thing.

Wtf?

Peanut butter on a burger is legit. Especially if maple bacon is also on it.

I've never heard of taco soup and lived here my whole life.

MS should be southern fried chicken or some type of southern classic dish

Is taco soup a Mississippi thing? Everything else seems regional, but that one doesn't seem to fit.

They probably couldn't think of anything for Mississippi other than barbecue or soul food so they just put a random dish.
