I don’t think anyone is saying this system will completely replace four year universities.. it’s just another option that people will have, and on the surface, seems like a good idea

I’m perfectly ok with this.

A huge majority of college degrees are complete BS programs

And it’s shocking that the comrades at Google want to deprive people of that indoctrination.

Do they plan on paying these new employees the same as one with a 4 year degree?

They will teach you how to code for an hour and then 15 hours on implicit bias impacting what you are coding.

In the end, money and competency is more important than ideology.

They should also get rid of the H1Bs. There are a lot of unemployed Americans who would be glad to do those jobs.

The same with all of the "core" courses,

To an extent yes, but a lot of my core classes were well beyond high school.

I wonder what the pricing will look like.

The article mentions a similar program already in place for $49/mo.

Love this. This country’s education system from top to bottom is antiquated and sucks and you see it in the streets and in every day life. Hopefully this is something that can get the ball rolling and big changes can come in the next decade.

I really sharpened critical thinking skills in undergrad and graduate school.

I joined the Army when I was 17. By the time I was 22 I’d lived in 2 States and a different country.

I’m pretty sure 22 year old me would have destroyed 17 year old me.

Education is more than just College. Getting out of your comfort zone and experiencing life and different cultures is more of an education than most people realize.

Surprised it took this long for companies to dip into the education market.

Texas Instruments did it in 1961 for what is now UT Dallas. They wanted to train and create high-ed opportunities for potential employees in the North Texas area instead importing talent to work at TI

If they didn’t make students take a foreign language, those schools would not exist.
