Rental Car Driver Repositioner

You pick up rental cars from locations (or the airport) and bring them to a rental location and drop it off. You don't have to deal with the public since you only are driving from one location to reposition the car to another location. I think they only let you work about 20 hours a week. It's a bunch of old guys that do it.

I'm missing something here.

-Drive to one rental car location (or airport, whatever).
-Take the car in question over to a different branch.

to get back to your own car so you can go home you have to count on that second branch needing to also send a car back to the original branch, right?

How many hours per week do they make you work to get benefits? The only thing about retail is I wonder what shifts they give you. Since it’s 24 hours.

I wasn’t really interested in the benefits I have a nice retirement setup and I have VA benefits just looking to make some $$$ for my future boat.

They have someone that instead of driving the rental vehicles drives a van and picks everyone up and brings them back to the staging area/their personal car.

Sounds like a good idea until you have to work all the holidays away from your family being the lowest employee on the totem pole.

While I am not a truly and fully retired person since I do WFH freelance structural design CAD work for a large company while also managing a homestead in the rural mountains of New England. I have more of a diversified income stream from multiple sources, And my part-time source is working at the local Hardware/Feed & Supply/Building Material store every other weekend for $22/hr. While the actual money it pulls goes to my beer and bourbon budget, the true benefit is my company discount of 9% over cost for all products they sell. This is everything from dog food, chicken supplies, lumber, fencing, paint, tools, etc. I literally save thousands to tens of thousands per year thanks to this discount. Well worth giving up the time every other weekend. So my suggestion to you is find something you can partake in that will be beneficial to supporting your planned retirement lifestyle.

A part time job and its income can really screw you in healthcare costs. Relax and get a couple hobbies.

I retired from teaching/coaching 3 years ago. Been officiating football ( High School, Jr High and even pee wee on saturdays ) Also work part time for a friends catering business 2-4 days a week with a flexible schedule . There are lots of things out there to do especially if you know a lot of people. Thinking about umpiring baseball as well this upcoming season too

I've done brand ambassador work for several breweries over the past few years. I've worked for a brewery or distributor and give out samples in grocery stores. It's usually Friday-Sunday and it's 3 hour shifts @ $20/hour. It's inside (nice and cool in the summer), flexible hours, no sales just free samples. And I get to keep the extras if there are any.

There are a lot of people that do this for wine and liquor too.

I had to take the TABC test to get my license to sell/distribute alcohol.

I can't imagine closing in on retirement and busying myself with figuring out what kind of job I'm going to get after retirement.

Why? It's a thing. I never thought it was either until I started getting closer to retirement.

We are so used to having structure and having a purpose in daily life, and then retirement takes that away. I can see the transition being difficult now. It's a dramatic change in your life. Sitting around the house doing nothing doesn't sound that great for the long term.

I can fully retire in 3 years at the age of 56. My wife will work another 10 years. I need to figure out something to do, but I don't want much responsibility in a job anymore..

Go get a job with local government.

I say this because when I was in college I worked for a local government entity. My boss was retired and did the job to have something to do. He built houses for a living, had his own contracting company for over 20 years. Then he got a job where he had to go ride out to job sites, make sure everything was done right.. Which made it easy for him when he was familiar with the contractors. He went in at 6:30PM and was done at 2:30. He came in in the morning, left, came back after lunch for about 30 mins and would come back about 2:15 to park his work truck.

He would leave at 2:30 and go straight to the bar... Where he would stay every day until exactly 5PM.
