Good areas to live in around DFW?

We’re moving to the area from Bossier for work, my job start date is January 1. I’m in sales so I’ll be in a truck pretty much every day calling on customers. My wife is a PA so obviously where we live is kind of dependent upon where she works. We’ve got a 2 year old and a 9 month old, so schools will play a major part in where we live.
We went over this past weekend to look around and look at a few houses. We looked at 3 houses in Garland and 2 of them we liked a whole lot and well within our budget but driving through Garland the town seemed kind of dumpy. We also looked in Richardson, Plano, McKinney, and Allen and none of the houses over there in our budget were very nice.
We also drove around Rockwall just the two of us yesterday on our way out of town and really loved the area. And a lot of the houses there fit our budget. But we didn’t get a chance to view any of the houses as we had to get back home to the kids.
Right now, with me transitioning into a commission-based role we don’t want to overextend ourselves on a house.
Any of y’all got any recs for any other areas that would be worth looking at, because I was shocked at the price and quality of houses over there.

You should probably start here. Unless you're asking for good hospital recs.

Forney is full. Don't look there.

Lots of affordable homes being built out in Prosper/Aubrey but it's roughly an hour outside of downtown Dallas.
With a wife and kids I'm sure you don't really care about the amenities in downtown area though.

Oh no, we’ve already taken that into consideration and have discussed that with recruiters

We chose Keller. Just moved here back in February. Like it just fine. Kids are grown though so did not factor schools into it.

I loved my time in Las Colinas.
10mins from DFW and 25mins from Dallas proper with a semi-rural feel.
Even has a Four Seasons!

You say DFW, but that's a large area. Do you have any particular area you might be interested in?
We live in Granbury, west of Fort Worth. Housing costs are reasonable and we have great schools here.

He mentioned having a budget, so Prosper is out for sure.
That's golf cart with neon lighting and a sound system land.
If your wife doesn't know where she's going to work, I don't know how much anyone can help. Hell, she could land a job in Waxahachie. Areas of DFW can be very distinct; there are some burbs in which you would think you moved to Mumbai, others where it feels like Baton Rouge lite, etc.

if you go a little west of White Settlement it's pretty nice, if you're into the rural ranchette scene

North Dallas is pricey and they've got development booked all the way up to Celina it seems. If you end up around Prosper your property value should grow a lot over the next few years. Royse City is the next up and coming area but might be a long haul. Far east of Dallas is the next area that will be developed after they run out of space to the north.

So far we’ve only physically looked at houses in the north-northeast segment of the Dallas area. And she’s told her recruiters she wants to work in that area.
