The wind like this it would be awful. I think if I were swinging it well and the conditions were really nice I could break a hundred. Not by much. The course is so much more up and down than it looks on tv. If I had to walk it no chance I break 100.

I'd be lucky to break 1,000.

A great, talented scratch golfer would shoot in the high 90's out there.

Scoring average today is a 76 for the 50 best players in the world with magical short games.

An extremely talented scratch amateur would get his arse kicked out there.

Legitimately, how tough would it be for an average guy to get on the course? I'm not talking about my lazy self who just talks about wanting to play there. If someone made it their dream, and would stop at nothing, would they have a shot of playing Augusta National before they died?

Obviously it's not easy, but if you were willing to devote tons of effort to it, I'm sure a reasonably successful, personable person could.

I know a number of people who've played, but I am from Atlanta. But there was some dude who set out to play all top 100 courses in America and did pretty well. I think once you really made it your #1 hobby you'd likely begin making contacts who could help, especially as you knocked other top courses off your list.

He also says the greens are the toughest part of the course.

Yep.

Losing balls is not the issue.

Trying not to 9 putt each hole is the issue.

Not that the pros aren't unimaginably good at golf but I think it's worth mentioning that the grandstands and the rules officials probably make their scores a few shots better than they would be normally. Spieth and Rory both got pars on 8 after they sprayed their tee shots into the bleachers.

That is not insanely hard at Augusta. It isn't that long, there isn't a lot of OB, the rough is short and beautifully manicured.

50 yards in it's the toughest there is. The greens are like putting on a glass table top with some hole locations.

I could play a round at Augusta and lose 0-1 balls...and still shoot 130. THAT is fricking nuts. I could get to greens/fringe in regulation or +1 and score a 10...consistently.

And like I said, my erection would be noticeable. I'd legitimately consider removing a testicle to play a round there in April.

Sammy Schmitz, a +2.4 handicap amateur shot 75 yesterday. Pretty sure a true scratch golfer could break 90.

Schmitz played out of his mind.

He's also a mid am champ, the guy has tournament experience. He's a +2 under tournament conditions, he's probably lower at some other clubs.

Any regular scratch golfer would get smoked.

You grab a regular scratch golfer and put him on those greens and that wind he's toast.
