Seeing this photo put Bananarama's song in my head this morning. Amazing shot of the moon and Venus.

I know I'm just being greedy but I would love for them to post the RAW files for the top photos. Especially the ones with planets and far side of the moon. The impact crater shots are outstanding.

ETA: This one is fascinating. On the right about a third of the way up is a series of interconnected craters where you can tell when each of them hit (in relation to each other).

Video of the moment they named the crater after Carroll Wiseman. It was called down by Jeremy Hansen and you see Wiseman hug him in the video.
If you want to see how poisoned our polity has become, go read the comments on a site like the NYT that has an article up about Carroll Crater.

Read earlier today they have transmitted over 100 GB of video and photos to this point.

Kelsey Young (Science Comms chick Dustin impart flashes) just said as of an hour ago 50gb & 2/3 of the audio observation logs are down. 6 months for them to put everything out for public access.

This other guy is saying 20gb came down in 45 minutes.

The math doesn't line up. I think 100gb is probably the more accurate figure. Maybe the 50gb is all the science team has been able to go through so far.

ETA: Frequent mentions of iPhone. But you've got to peel the label off your plastic water bottle while talking to the press. Confirmation that Apple has a product placement deal with NASA???

Yeah I think it’s two different pools. The 100GB was exclusively pictures and video in the source I referenced. I dunno how data intensive audio and data readouts from instruments are.

Young talking about Ohm makes you think that it could be in the final list of high priority landing spots for Artemis IV.

Inbetween Project Hail Mary and Artemis, KSP, a game originally released in early access 15 years ago, has the highest number of concurrent active players on Steam since the v1.0 release.

That "game" is something every institution in the world should use to teach people about physics and thermodynamics. It's insanely realistic and detailed.

I know people bought it and started playing it, thinking, "Wow, a space exploration game! I'm gonna build a rocket and go to the moon and other planets!"

No, No you're not it's gonna take a GOOD while. I landed on the moon and it took me at least a couple weeks of trial and error....took me even longer to figure out how the hell to get back.

You haven’t KSP’d till you’ve had to make a rescue mission to get Jeb off of the Mun.

Jeb was killed i\on the first attempt when I came in too hot and blew the orbit entry and got slingshotted out into space

You haven’t really KSP’d until you’ve:
1. Accidentally stranded a Kerbal in orbit, then
2. Thought for a brief moment about what it would take to rescue them, then
3. Changed the ship type from “capsule” to “space station,” then
4. Left them in space for the rest of the game.

Other acceptable answers include:
- Spending 3 hours building a monstrosity of a probe only to launch it, return to the KSC, then realize you forgot to install an antenna and/or batteries when it’s time for the next maneuver.
- Spending 3 hours building a monstrosity of a crew vehicle, finally getting the damned thing to orbit, rendezvousing in orbit of another planet, then realizing your docking port is on backwards.
- Spending 30 minutes walking back to your spaceship because you got carried away and wrecked your Mun rover.
- Attaching boosters to your boosters.

But yeah.. I don’t think there’s any better way to learn how orbital mechanics actually work than playing KSP. I’d love to know the percentage of actual rocket scientists who have played it.. I bet it’s shockingly high.

They took 10,000 photos. That is ~33 shots per minute.

No but they finally got a pic of your mom. They needed to get that far out to make sure she could fit in frame.
