I did nothing to indicate to him that I’m above him because I am not above him. He has his trade and I have mine.

Outside of plumbing, HVAC and major electrical issues, I'll do most home repair stuff myself.

Decades ago, I remember a cartoon where a TV repairman was asked by the man of the house how much he charged. The response was along the lines of, "$50 an hour if you leave me to do my work, $75 if you watch me fix it, and $200 an hour if you try to help."

OP, just walk away, and let him come find you when he's done.

Home maintenance sends me right back to spoiled kid mode. Everytime something breaks I want to just sell this old bitch and buy something newer.

Then I remember life sucks and go about fixing my broke arse house.

HVAC service techs, refrigerator repairmen, garage door techs…
I have had all of these to my home and not a single one has tried to up-sell me. You must look like a mark.

This is a given for most everything.

Not for replacing the springs on a garage door opener.

You pretty much have to speak a little Spanish if you want something done quickly without expecting sales pitches and upsell attempts.

Even a "family owned company that's been in business for xx years" is often owned by PE now and in the business of sales.
This is BS. Where do you live? Even the lawn crews in my neighborhood are white guys and not methy.

I rebuilt a transmission one time because I didnt want to pay someone to fix it

Come to find out, I actually did need to pay somebody for that job.

I never hover over a repairman since the time I called a plumber to fix a leak in my kitchen sink's water line in the cabinet under the sink.

Before he started the job I asked him about how much would the cost be.

He said, "I have two options. If you don't help me the cost is $75. If you help me the charge is $150."

I went to the other room...

Especially involving electricity and garage door springs. We need some new Darwin Award winners.

The wire for my oven baking element burned so I called a local repairman to change it out. I had bought a new element but wasn't comfortable changing the wire. He came put, took him 10 minutes and didn't charge me a dime.

Dumbass mentality. I’m sure I’m going to get crucified because the OT is 99% redneck baws that share your mindset, but you save a shite ton of money in the long term by hiring people who are excellent at what they do and are honest about it

Did Jody the RepairMan, making frequent "repairs" at your home?

Also did he tell his service tech friends as well?

All visiting the "wife" for bogus service calls?

These are not all the same. Me and any mature, comfortable man has no problem with the last one.

You should question yourself while you are so thin skinned and weak.
