So, making a promise for 14 years in the future... when the CEO/CFO/COO ect won't even be in charge.

Bold.

So you have a 40 gallon tank, drive 55 mph, RWD only, and have nothing in the truck besides your 120 pounds when wet body?

My vehicle sure as shite can't go across Texas on one tank of gas either.

But how many gas stations will you pass? Now how many electric stations will you pass? And how long will it take to charge?

The real question is how will this affect the Power Grids?

To think technology won’t evolve into something completely different than what it is today is disingenuous and naive.

First Tesla was delivered 02/2008, that’s 13 years ago. What has changed in that time that makes you think this will work in 14 years. Also, those first 8 years for Tesla happened with an administration that wrote blank checks to help bolster alternative energies.

It’ll be a shite-LOAD cheaper for them to make electric trucks...just keep pumping useless ‘features’ and still charge more and more. Of course they want to go electric.

Technology is speeding up the recharge time.

Last week technology was displayed that can charge a car in under 5 minutes.

A long way from the road, but it exist.

Yeah, there's way too much that has to go together to make this work. This announcement is something they can say to get into to good graces of our current political leaders while being able to walk it back later if need be.

It will go by faster than you think and it's not like they are going to sunset all gas and diesel vehicles exactly in 2035. They will start gradually doing it over those 14 years.

14 years is like 2 CEO's away. And GM changes directions as the wind blows.

One thing they are consistent on is protecting their truck and SUV market share. If the people want electric, they'll give it to them. If they don't, they won't.

the US electric grid cant support an all electric vehicle fleet.....

already, when they get peak load, they have to switch to coal burning production.....

GM is going to SJW themselves into bankruptcy...

Correct. Both General Motors and Toyota have said as much. So has Elon Musk.

If you want electric cars, you had better damn well be okay with massively expanding our electric grid and infrastructure.

Is the Federal Government now going to invest a hundred trillion dollars into private electric companies to subsidize the buildout of their electrical grid because our electrical infrastructure won't be able to handle the increase in electric power by 2035 without a hundred trillion dollar investment. Toyota and Tesla both warned the US about this two months ago.

After a major hurricane or major ice storm, how will folks charge up?

It's going to require a massive overhaul. As well as a massive increase in battery production.

Lithium doesn't grow on trees. This is NOT the environmental panacea folks want it to be.

The more electric cars on the road, the lower demand for gas, so prices should remain steady or depressed.

I'm all about alternatives but it's going to take a long time.
