I think the main reason is to make sure im not lying about where I am.

If you feel this way about your girlfriend of 3 years, then you should break up due to your own insecurities. There's only two reasons you should even be thinking this:
1. You have gone and done things without her that sound questionable to her and were deceptive, or
2. She is possibly crazy and doesn't trust you for whatever insecurities she might have.

If option 1, that's on you. If option 2, break up with someone who doesn't trust you and isn't willing to work on regaining the missing trust.

like if I were to get kidnapped or something

Years ago I knew of a person who went missing for a week. They killed themselves. No one knew until they realized they had gone to an old property that the family had owned.

Here's a slightly more practical example: you can be outside exercising, you pass out, fall in a ditch or something to that effect. You go missing. You are found with help from your iPhone location.

Not every reason for sharing locations is practical. It does feel weird having someone know where you are at all times. Wait til you find out that just logging into TigerDroppings shares more information with the government and advertising agencies AND has more of a effect on your life than your girlfriend knowing where you are.

ETA: Its actually come in handy. When we were dating, my wife (girlfriend) at the time got pick pocketed by a little Dindu nuffin while she was shopping. We were able to track the location to her phone. Thankfully they didn’t leave the shopping center. She went home and brought her Ipad after confronting the parent of said Dindu and made her phone ding from her Ipad.

You can do all of that with “find my iPhone” without constantly sharing your location with your SO.

My parents take comfort in knowing that I'm home safe and sound. I'm a new parent, but I understand why they feel that way. I have a hard time being away from my daughter when I work less than 2 miles from her daycare. The first couple of months in, there was that shooting at a Nashville school shooting. Immediately I panicked. I wanted to KNOW my daughter was safe. Deep down, I "knew" she was because no way would it happen there.

It's not odd. It's a parental thing.

either you've done something sketchy and she thinks you are up to something, or she's already beaten you to the punch by cheating on you, and this is her projecting her guilt/shame...

no woman on earth just up and decided that locations need to be shared for that piss poor reason she gave you... straight up homey, you may want to start asking some serious questions

Totally reasonable. Happens all the time. Hell, I was kidnapped twice just last week!

Wait, you, a grown adult with your own children, shares your location with YOUR PARENTS? Please tell me I misinterpreted this.

When I get to the boat launch I text my mom & again when we are getting back on the road
I also don’t think they need to know where I am 24/7

I go a lot of places alone and am too lazy to tell him every new store/boutique/bakery that opens up or doctors or estate sales so I insisted he put it so he could see where I was. I have medical issues and have passed out in public twice (luckily with friends). I have never opened the app to see where he is. He also sometimes texts me and says "while at the store can you pick up x for me?"

My grown children and significant others also location share with each other when they are all travelling to meet up and forget to turn it off and then mess with each other.

We are not sleezy cheater types though.

"Safety reasons"

When you have seconds, cops are minutes away.

Mommy fantasy blogs and Lifetime movies aren't real life.

She sounds a bit insecure tbh

I share my location with my wife all the time but it's usually because I'm hunting. She never asks me to, I always do it so she doesn't worry. She thinks that knowing where I'm at if I'm dead in a ditch will make me less dead in a ditch.

I don't care at all, but it's fricking weird, unless you're 17 years old with a kid.
