I’m in the “he ain’t funny” camp. Saget, Williams, norm, bobcat, etc. none were funny.

I didn't find him funny, but he had some decent small appearances in many movies.

A brilliant, bizarre, and fearless comedic genius who never gave two f*cks. The greatest guest in Howard Stern show history and the greatest roaster of all time. He always went last at celebrity roasts because he was the best.

Dude was making bank with AFLAC and after the Tsunami tweeted (keep in mind Japan is AFLAC's #1 market)

"Japan is so advanced that you don't go the beach... the beach comes to you!"

LOL. RIP you no filter genius.

Also credited with the the first 9/11 joke. Can't remember what the joke was but it was followed possibly by the first sarcastic "too soon?" response to the boos

I prefer dry English comedy to someone yelling obscenities and crude jokes. I’m actually the funniest guy you’ve never met. Pretty ironic, don’t you think?

He then went into the Aristocrats joke and made every comedian in attendance shite themselves laughing.

Nothing worse than someone who "knows" they're funny.

I'll remember him for the Problem Child movies from my childhood.

RIP

Eta: listened to him when he was on Rogan recently and he's kind of awkward but his Hollywood knowledge is pretty impressive. Seemed like a really nice guy too.

Something to the effect of his flight to LA might make an unscheduled stop at the Empire State Building.

Earlier in the evening, Rob Schneider told a couple of jokes that went bad and Jeff Ross stepped to the mike and said, "c'mon, Rob...there's been enough bombing in NY lately."

I just listened to his episode on Norm Macdonalds podcast. It's a fantastic shite show for anyone that hasn't seen it. RIP

Man I fell asleep watching that show for years. I miss TV like that. Such a far stretch from what’s on TV 30 years later

Is "long illness" code for cancer?

People are always so cryptic.
Died suddenly. Etc.

Gilbert, like Norm, was a comedian's comedian. Another legend gone. RIP.

I realize this is oddly specific humor but I loved how Gilbert found humor in some of the most unfunny places. He loved to talk about, and parody, Grouch Marx during the period when Groucho was old as dirt and stopped telling jokes. Groucho would just ramble on about what it was like to be in showbusiness while speaking in such a drawn-out way, and Gilbert found it absolutely hilarious.

This past Sunday I happened to catch a recording from 2015 between Gilbert and Bob Costas talking about comedy. Gilbert didn't care about sports at all, but you could tell he enjoyed dissecting the Whos on First routine with Bob in a way that only true lovers of comedy do.

The greatest guest on the Howard Stern show back in the day

On one appearance, he told a story about being hired to open for the Go Go’s for one the band’s comeback concert tours. He said that he got out on the stage and saw a sea of middle aged moms and their young daughters. He proceeded to do his normal, filthy stand-up set.

He didn’t get to open for the Go Go’s again.
