I look at them like I want to rip their throat out for even asking me if I want to give away my money.
Seems a little over the top to be THAT pissed off at the cashier for doing what their boss tells them to do.

Guess where that money goes? 1/3 to salaries. Most of the rest goes to other charities where someone is getting a nice salary, nice meals, nice "business" vacations.
I swear some of you people don’t realize how fortunate you are. What’s fricking 10 bucks for some family to get some canned green beans

A grown adult gives a damn about what other people think. Are you a woman?

There is no way it was that awkward. I always tell them no and never have had anything like that happen. I figured everyone told them no

Reason 5,002 to use the self checkout line.

You’d think people would be able to spot a troll by now

Now I'll donate my time and effort to a good cause, and would much rather donate some food or cook some food for someone/event. But no I'm not giving any money for some scam.

Yea, you show it to that $9/hour employee who’s only doing what they’re told to by managers..
You think cashiers are soliciting donations for personal reasons?

Misplaced anger. My daughter cashiers at a grocery store and she doesn't give a shite if you donate or not but she'll get in trouble for not asking and written up if it happens repeatedly. Trust me, she hates asking way more than you hate being asked.

I simply ask:
If I donate will you give me a receipt so I can have a charitable donation?

I hate that crap too. If you want me to donate just put a kid outside the entry door in a baseball uniform and there is a good chance I will donate. Otherwise you have put weird pressure on me during checkout that I do not appreciate at all. On a side note, I love donating to the Salvation Army during Christmas. Wonder what % the get paid of the haul?

$10 for canned green beans? No wonder they’re poor

I politely say no and go about my day. Now it is different if it is a school funded donation or car wash or something like that then I will give. I have two teenagers in high school and they play sports/activities so I do what I can to donate. My family comes first but I always try to donate my time to better someone else's day. To me actions and showing you want to help are better than just giving money to somewhere you have no idea who's hands it will end up in and not be used for the purpose you donated it for.

Just say "not this time" and move on.

its out of control and has reached a saturation point, hard to remember who and what we gave to, "no thank you but thanks for asking" is getting easier to say and avoid the whole issue...
Posted on 2/13/18 at 9:17 am to SabinBear
They are told to do that. Don't feel bad, it is your freedom of choice to say no. I only fall for that when I am hungover.
