Pretty easy.
This is part of the plea deal you make with the prosecutor before you see the judge.

This way it can stay off your record and the court can still collect some money from you which is usually what they are interested in anyway.

Was this a wreck?
They often give COMV tickets in connection with a wreck. If so, you will need to bring a letter from your insurance company saying that the claim is being adjusted.

Call the DA, usually you can take a driver course and they will reduce it to non moving

There is a Reckless Operation and Careless Operation and he got the latter. Was a female officer…wonder if she’ll be at court. Will be interesting.

Is this for not putting a blinker on? What was deemed careless by the LEO?

I met with the prococutor on the last one I received. I was told to take a defensive driving course (online was acceptable) and return with the cert on the next court date and it was reduced to non-moving.

You can request to talk to the da to get it reduced or even dropped. Or plead article 894

THIS is a preferred method. IF you throw in to the DA that you will take defensive driving($25 online)he will likely throw it out.

Not a lot of facts here, but it appears this is your son's ticket, correct?

Do you know the circumstances for which the ticket was given?

Most people will call the number on the ticket and ask about a reduction and/or a defensive driving course. All they can say is no.

I believe in LA that tickets given to juveniles require an appearance. If this was in MS, you might need to call and check on that if your son is under 18.

None of this is legal advice. Just questions and observations anyone might consider when trying to get a ticket reduced. I know lots of folks who have been successful depending on the circumstances.

He’s 18, but still in high school. He was obviously driving like an a-hole to warrant the ticket, but he didn’t go into many details. Just said the other drivers were driving slow AF.

If this were my child, I'd call the number on the ticket and ask who I could speak with about the ticket. Due to his age, they might require speaking with him, but I'd tell them he's in high school. I'd probably also tell them he's losing some privileges due to the ticket.

I’d call today. If it’s your son, they usually have programs they can get in

Every jurisdiction is different though

Assuming you took away his car after this to teach him a lesson?

Call DA's office and ask. If it's your first offense in parish and you werent going like 40 over, they're pretty much guaranteed to do it. Every time I've asked, they've done it

They should be yielding to the faster traffic…that’s in Chapter 2.

I once had a ticket reduced in EBR by simply showing up early to pay my ticket. I went to the clerks office to pay my ticket prior to going on vacation out of country. When I got to the clerks office the ticket had not been fully processed yet, so the clerk said since you're here so early, if you pay today I can have it moved to a non-moving violation. That was an easy decision. Don't know if it makes a difference but I was less than 10 over on the speed limit.

Wife called. They say if he goes to City Hall before 5 o’clock today or tomorrow, he can sign up for a driving course. This will keep him from having to go to court, and it will keep it from going on his record. But he has to sign up for the course on his own since he is 18. The course is held in person once per month. Success!
