Again, I have no problem with outside dogs. But why even bother bringing them in to kennel them or put them in the laundry room?

I bring mine in at night so they don’t bark and wake the neighbors or start hunting the opossums, coons, and nutria that wander around when the sun goes down

You don't need a dog.

Doesn't matter. As an owner, it is your responsibility to know where your dog is at all times and to ensure a safe and secure environment. Leaving your dog outside all day, you will be unable to do this.

You think a dog would rather :

A: Be couped up inside all day with nothing to do and can't piss and shite at will

B: Be outside all day to run around and piss and shite at will

That’s a great answer and what I figured. Your neighbors thank you. I had a guy with outside beagles a few houses down growing up. I still hate beagles.

I'm a single guy and badly want a dog once I move into a house. I've always figured as long as I had a good fence, good shade and fan, the dog could stay outside during the day while I'm at work. Every dog I've ever had growing up and/or been around was an outdoor dog. Is this unreasonable?

Not at all. Just don’t expect it to come inside and not stink or shed. There is nothing wrong with outside dogs.

I suggest you start with a dogfish or mud puppy. Small and less work.

See how it goes.

House train it and get a dog door.

Mine would usually just chill outside any way until someone comes home.

This is almost any breed of medium to large dogs. They are animals. They are made for that. Anyone that tells you different is one that treats their dog like a human. Dogs are not people. Leave them outside and let them do dog things. Just spend alot of time with them outside otherwise there is no point to owning one.

I've never met someone that thinks that it's not ok to leave a dog in a fenced in yard outside. I literally would not have my lab if I had to keep it in a kennel vs outside in my yard.

Get a doggy door from your Laundry room, kitchen, whatever.

Crate trained my puppy because didn’t have yard safe enough to leave dog out in... moved to place with great yard... tried to make him outdoor during day... he whined and barked at back door all day. Now I put doggy door in kitchen and close off the kitchen so he can’t ruin rest of house. No accidents and I can tell he goes outside to play because his toys are moved, etc, but he’s not bugging the neighbors with his noise.

Just depends on the individual dog

I thought I would leave mine outside during the day too. Now my australian sheppard is on the couch watching TV when I leave for work making me jealous of his life.

Australian Cattle Dogs are incredibly smart and good out-door oriented dogs. Ours will stay outside for long periods of time during the day but loves to be inside too.

Lab -- best overall dog...

You can easily train them to stay in their "spot". I've had labs for over 20 years and leave my dog in the house all day. Put in the back yard when I'm home. Caution -- be prepared when they are puppies to deal with some bullshite

Leaving outside with bad weather will cause problems. I had one of mine jump a six foot fence and only thru shear luck found her.

When you're at work during the day, how do you know your dog isn't barking constantly all day while outside?

My neighbor has an "outside" dog. fricking dog barks all day at everything....or nothing. I have no problem with outside dogs if you live in the country with no neighbors. Inside a tight neighborhood is a no-go for outside dogs.

What's sad is these types of owners normally get home, give their dog a quick petting on the head, feed them and then the owner returns inside never to give the dog any more attention until the next morning. I don't get the point of owning a dog if this is how you treat one. Do you own a dog just so you can tell people you own a dog? Really, what's the point?
