If you think you have CPAP, get yourself tested.

Get help.

I’m not really that old and fat. Or that tall. I was being facetious.

I do have too much belly though. Need to lose that again.

Found one for 150 brand new. Talked them down to 125.

Resmed -s9 with nose pillows

Is this gonna change my life?

ETA: I had done the sleep study done but the insurance has been jerking me around.

Found one through a friend and the price seemed good so i’m pulling the trigger.

My snoring is extremely loud and apparently I stop breathing in my sleep

1. That's a great price. Get another one if you can. Be aware that a professional may be required to set the pressure level if not already done. Some of the older Resmed units are easily hackable but not sure about this one.

2. Hope the nose pillows work for you... they suck donkey balls though IMHO. I have always been much more successful with a full mask (that covers both nose and mouth) like a Mirage Quattro or Simplus.

3. There are some people who start using a CPAP and love it immediately, and it changes their life overnight. But that's less than one percent of the population. Expect a period where you take it off during the night, have trouble breathing, getting used to it, etc. Just stick with it. Be honest with yourself... while in "training" mode, you won't be any worse off than you are right now.

4. Make sure you try the 15mm hoses instead of the 22mm. Both work just fine but the 15mm thin hoses are a lot more comfortable in the bed, and are lighter weight. They are very cheap, so if you have the 22mm hoses, it's inexpensive and easy to make the swap to the smaller hoses. Also, you can get an extender splice for the use of two hoses - most units can go up to 10-12 feet away to the mask. This is helpful if you sleep on a king mattress, have a spouse who hates noise, etc.

5. Plan on saving up for a So Clean system. It is very easy to get bacteria inside your system, and this uses ozone to clean it "hands free". I was skeptical but it works well. Much easier than hand washing and cleaning frequently.

6. Now that you have a study done and prescription in hand, talk with your insurance company. They will often be willing to buy new hoses, mask inserts, etc etc on a periodic basis. Use your clean older gear to set up a travel kit.

Good luck!

I use a wisp mask. Check it out. It's small and not too expensive. You can make the adjustments yourself if yours has an SD card. There's a software you can download to check your card and make adjustments from there. Just find one of the sleep apnea forums and it will walk you through it.

you know it;s funny....

up until a few years ago...right about the time the Obamacare changed the rules for "medical devices" very few people were prescribed CPAP machines.

Now, EVERYONE NEEDS ONE TODAY!!!!!!!!

Yep, more people got on welfare and stopped working, got fat, and now have sleep apnea. They were handing out CPAP's long before Obama.

They usually send the results to your doctor. You’re doctor that ordered the sleep study will get the results to go over them with you. At least that is how it worked for me

I got mine 3 years ago. I would have blurred vision in the afternoons and my memory went to complete shite. I would sleep 10 hours and feel like I could barely get out of bed. After seeing multiple doctors I got the sleep test.

It took about a week to get used to and then I felt like a new man. Very deep sleep, wont wake up to piss 3 or 4 times. I also lost about 10 pounds because I wasn’t hungry all the time. I could lose a few more but I’m no fatty.

I am glad I am married because you could never bring home strange to that machine.

If you're considering this, take a peak at the Phillips Dreamwear mask. Your nose fits over a slit with no pillows. There's a trial size kit available. The head gear is pretty much all silicone and has the connector on top, so it doesn't feel like an elephant trunk hanging from your nose. You feel more like a Snork.

It was for me. Don't give up on it without going through several mask options. 9 cm H2O is a good starting point for the pressure. Rule #1, don't overtighen the straps, just seat the pillows lightly against the nostrils. Don't adjust the straps with the weight of the hose hanging off of the mask. I never had any luck with the pillows, myself. They made sores in my nostrils. I'm a side sleeper, though, YMMV. If you mouth breathe while you're asleep, you need a mask that covers your mouth and nose. If you don't, and the pillows aren't working for you, the wisp that someone mentioned is a good place to start. I ultimately ended up with a Sleepweaver advance cloth mask. It's similar to the wisp, but no hard parts and barely any strap marks.
