I’m aware there are shitty judges. And that sucks. But that’s going to be an issue no matter how strict the CAF laws are

How about a person be convicted of a crime before the state steals it from him?

If he's guilty so be it. The state shouldnt have a problem proving that if this is an airtight case.

I'm sure someone in this thread has done the research, but any time a story comes up like this, is it ever an otherwise law abiding citizen that has the money from purely legal avenues?

Even if there wasn't a single law abiding citizen among them, they still have a presumption of innocence until they have their day in court.

Obviously they didnt have a good reason for carrying so much wrapped up. If they had then "move along" then. If it comes out they proved it, and still seized then thats an issue.

So I need a "good" reason to do something legal, like carry cash?

So what if the state gives them an "interest rate" of sorts as a self penalty if it's proven to be legit? Would that be reasonable?

And just like giving illegals a court date to come back to..do you think that 500k will ever be seen if not seized until proven??

There was a town in Texas that was pulling over out of state people under the pretext of drug investigations and if the driver waived his rights to the property in the car, the town police would "drop the charges"- or else charge the driver with all sorts of felony drug charges, regardless if there was actually any drugs in the car. They typically accepted engagement rings, smart phones, electronics, anything of value.

It got to the point where if there were kids in the car the town police would call CPS and threaten to take their kids away if they didnt comply.

Caf is a joke...

The worst part is that the local enforcement agencies get to spend the money themselves. This only creates more incentive for bull shite caf.

That isn't how our country works. Or at least it's not supposed to but CAF let's it run backwards.

It doesn't matter if the laws were properly applied.

So it's illegal now to carry large amounts of cash? Didn't click the link, but I don't see how they can just seize money because of how it is packaged, and they have been charged with no other crime.

If you have over 10k in cash it is very wise to have proof of where it came from.

Exactly. Not sure why people are acting like having 500k wrapped up isnt deserving of proof. 10k has been well established for a long time.

If a person is arrested, in my eyes thats appropriate to seize any assets associated with the crime. That said if the person is acquitted or charges dropped the seized assets need to be released. Just my .02.

I never said I agreed with it

I think you should be able to carry any amount of cash without having to prove where it came from. The burden of proof should not be on me proving I didn't commit a crime.

Yes it has and that doesn't mean I agree with it.

I should not have to prove to a local cop where I got my cash.

Not saying you agree BUT you are confirming it's not some alien idea to do so.

Lots of things we may not agree with we are stuck having to do cause negative things come of it. Like wearing seatbelts....

Wtf is he guilty of other than having a bunch of cash?

I don’t know all of the facts of this case, so I’m not going to say who was right or wrong.

Wait, you just said he was guilty of something.
