Again, you think it is ok to put the burden of proof on the citizen, and not the government.

Do you realize how crazy that it is? To say that is a slippery slope is gargantuan understatement.

I'm sure someone in this thread has done the research, but any time a story comes up like this, is it ever an otherwise law abiding citizen that has the money from purely legal avenues?

I don't like the idea of CAF either, but I'm curious as to how many times it's actually affected an otherwise law abiding citizen.

I'm going to repeat this just in case no one got it, I do not like CAF and don't think cops should be able to just take money away from anyone whenever they feel like it.

And even then, without evidence of a crime they only have 72 hours to get a judge to sign a warrant saying there’s probably cause that the money was for narcotics.

The judge hears from the cop:

"It smelled like marijuana in the car, he couldn't tell me what the money was for, and he has a prior criminal record"

Judge's sign these bullshite warrants for CAF constantly. Its truly unbelievable.

Gotta love our country, where police can take money for no other reason than suspicion without ever charging anyone with a crime.

But look how guilty that money looks.

If it’s for the purpose of CAF, then the judges I know wouldn’t sign that warrant to seize it.

Plain smell of MJ is PC to search a car for the presence of narcotics but most judges I deal with wouldn’t agree that it’s PC that the cash was for narcotics.

I’m aware there are shitty judges. And that sucks. But that’s going to be an issue no matter how strict the CAF laws are

So we're all guilty until proven innocent. Got it.

Obviously they didnt have a good reason for carrying so much wrapped up. If they had then "move along" then. If it comes out they proved it, and still seized then thats an issue.

I guess if they their kid tied up in the trunk they shouldnt have been questioned about it in more detail.

It comes off as shady. We dont know all the details of why it was red flagged.

All yall that are so adamant about all these "rights that help bad people get away with things" come off as shady frickers w/o the abilty to look at shite reasonably. The moonshiner vs cop extremes. There are plenty of logical people in the middle that are able to truly see a spade for a spade.

It was red flagged because those deputies know that money will stay with their agency. They wanted 508k to spend on new toys.

I was driving home from the casino once and got pulled over for a random thing, and the cop told me this. Granted he didn’t seize my cash, but let me know he had the right to if he wanted to be an arse. I guess I seemed like a straight shooter and he believed I was driving from Lake Charles.

Dont they give you a recipt for tax purposes to prove the money trail if asked? Could have been used as proof if asked. Now "why it came up" that you had it on you would be concerning.

A stop should be based on the reason, not just for whatever to find other things. Though the Mueller investigation has proven that our gov (and dems) dont care about that process.

Just don’t roll yourself around erratically if you’ve got drug money on you.

If you have over 10k in cash it is very wise to have proof of where it came from.

Glad I could help you learn something.

Everyone does this kind of thing. it's like saying an officer cant ask if someone is legally in th country if they dont speak english well, and they cant show documentation to prove it. So I guess they should just be let go, instead of held for further confirmation??

And yes...if you look like trailer trash meth head or ghetto trash...you will be judged accordingly. Just like someone who is dressed to the nines. it's human nature.

That can be subjective term.

Wasn't there a couple that got robbed outside their store 70k+ and their money was given back to them after they caught the guys? That had a happy ending.

Because property has far less rights than you do. It can be presumed guilty and seized with very little evidence.

Yeah, armed robbery.
