George Floyd mural demolished in Houston, sparking local outcry

What a tragedy
What Naomi Carrier fails to mention is that the property was for sale for a few months before a developer bought it and bulldozed it - her coalition had every chance to buy the property but they didn't. I guess it is someone else's fault that they couldn't afford the property.
Yesterday....

The spot that used to house a building covered in art and a wall-to-wall mural for Floyd has been reduced to rubble. The building was located at the intersection of Elgin and Ennis streets.
Following Floyd's murder, several artists collaborated on this mural in 2020 in the Third Ward neighborhood. The project was spearheaded by the non-profit Cinque Projects, with a paint donation from Home Depot, and permission from the building's owner.
Naomi Carrier, a historian of the neighborhood, told KHOU 11 that the demolition is erasing the history and culture of the community. "It’s a project of erasure," Carrier said. "Give me two years and that’ll be two or three to four-story condo on this block."

That’s a polite way of saying that.

As long as they don’t get rid of this one, I’m good.

I thought blacks love when black history is reduced to rubble.
Eventually, if they have their way, all reminders/history of the struggles of black Americans will be destroyed and they'll run out of ways to play the victim card.

Need to get more investors involved in gentrification.
It’s an easy fix to bad areas. Just make them nicer. Price goes up, those we don’t speak of move out

Not defending Chauvin, but Floyd was a pretty bad dude in his own right and hardly deserves to be honored with murals. I could understand honoring him a little more if using a $20 counterfeit bill was the only crime he had ever committed in his life, but that was actually the least of the crimes that he had committed.

Good, should've never been built in the first place.

Home Depot is pretty much gone as far as doing what is right. I will not shop there

You should be.

I think Chauvin was guilty and belongs in prison, but I also think that George Floyd is about the last person who we should be building murals to.
