A 9-year-old boy sustained a laceration and puncture wounds to his left leg in an alligator attack Sunday evening while swimming with family in Lake Pontchartrain, according to the New Orleans Fire Department.

quote:

"I really feel he would have pulled him under, drowned the kid and killed him," Schmidt said of an alligator he estimated at 6 feet in length. "The dad jumped on the gator and was literally beating it, and it let go of his son."

The father should find the gator’s offspring and make himself a fine pair of boots out of them then said shove boots up its arse.

Good article once they got around to where AND published a map.

and the newest collectable (now that all the S&WB man hole covers with the moon and stars have been stolen:

Meanwhile, Levee District police have ordered “No Swimming” signs in English and Spanish with a graphic of an alligator to be posted in the area

This is what the father of the Disney Gator attack a few years back needed to do. Jump on the Gator itself and not grab your kid and play tug of war.

Probably would have saved him there too.

So 6' gators are now attacking people? I thought that was the trappers cutoff, i.e., they would only remove gators > 6'?

Baw, that gator was 9+ and a monster. And he did try. He needed the starting O-line for LSU there to have done something with that size gator.

"the lake is the alligators home. We need to respect its boundaries and learn to be more aware of their territory."

We have a small one in our neighboring lake/pond and the DWF told us they need to be at least 4' for them to remove it.

Dad did good

Hope the kiddo makes a full recovery and the tissues in his leg weren’t irreparably damaged

Is this the first Gator attack in Louisiana in 100 years?

The gator are out of control in South Louisiana.

On my deck at camp and a big boy swam by right next to noodles we have holding back lilies. He was easy 10 ft. The 5-6 footers go after the corks when we fish. Have a bucket of rocks to throw at them to keep them at bay.

Duck ponds are full of them, can’t hunt with dogs anymore. Should be open season.

It was a 7 foot gator and he didn’t jump on it. The gator grabbed the kid by the head and the dad was tugging on the gator’s head but couldn’t get a grip.

We stay at GF resort often and have been given the story.

Outcome may have been the same, but I do think if he’d jumped on the gator he might have released the kid.
