It rained consistently here all night and until about 0800. It helped my area.

Thank God. It looked like it may dissipate early last night

This is heartbreaking. Spent a couple nights at the Park Vista back in June with the family.

I posted that and that is correct for the Nantahala and Clay County fires. POS need to burn with the fires they set.

ETA:

Just heard that Leconte Lodge and shelter are gone. The AT through there is decimated. Unconfirmed reports but, my buddy's father works for the park as a ranger and he told me.

Terrible.... I went a lot of time there as a kid for vacations. Really sad to see.

I was just there Saturday. Crazy. My wife and I celebrated her pregnancy last year at the Gatlinburg Falls Resort. Gone.

Usa today reported over Gatlinburg was gone. Glad to see it's not. Did see the aquarium left all it's animals. Said they could go 2_3 days without people.

I cancelled a vacation there last week because we went to Vegas earlier in the month and I couldn't take the time off again. I regret it now. Would have liked to see my favorite vacation place before it was decimated. (Yes there are better vacation spots, but it's cheap and close and the kids love it. )

Exactly...it's been a vacation staple for my family (and many other families) for decades for this very reason. You can't always afford Disneyworld, but you can always squeeze in a week in the Smokies. A lot of good memories.

This may have been posted already, but this is a crazy video of someone trying to escape Gatlinburg.

Does anyone have a map showing where the fires are now? How about East of Gatlinburg? Cherokee Grill area?

how do they have eagles in cages? and now they can't go in and set em free?

Dollywood partners with American Eagle Foundation to rescue and release when they can, but they have a lot of birds that can't survive in the wild that they keep in their aviary.

Cherokee Grill area?

Considering location of Park Vista Hotel, I'd say that area could have taken some damage. Cherokee Grill is less than a mile from PV as the crow flies.
