I've replaced alcohol consumption with THC gummies. Overall I feel better and less side effects. That being said, I still enjoy a good quality bourbon from time to time.

I think the point is people that are drinking at home are drinking regardless but some people that don’t drink at home may be more likely to drink out socially. Makes sense to me.
And I think--if you read the article--that's not the explanation.

The generations after mine have been disappointing in this regard.

People live on the internet now and are less likely to go out into the real world and socialize at bars.

Because of cell phone videos so easily made people don't like to go let loose like they used to. People will record you and share it forever. Also, drinking and driving is no longer a thing and people don't want to uber.

Also, it is becoming more known that it isn't healthy to binge drink.

Lots of negatives toward alcohol. It is funny to think that the peak was that trans dude on beer cans.

Scott Galloway argues that this is actually a concerning trend, especially the rapidly declining consumption rates of young people. He says they are drinking less because they are socializing less. Gamers in mom's basement don't get drunk while they sleep half the day and obsess over volatility in their 2 grand bitcoin account. His advice to young people is get out of the house, work hard, and go to bars and parties a lot.

One vice fading away usually means an even more destructive one is creeping in: loneliness, isolation, apathy, obesity.

Alcohol has been humanity’s friend for thousands of years.

How could I abandon a friend?

Finally some good news on the board. Alcohol culture will slowly phase out like smoking did

The OT should visit a travel ball tournament. Two favorite subjects combined.

Kratom and Delta 8 gummies are more relaxing and easier on your body. They also carry over to the next day making you feel chill all day. I’m trying to wean myself off both as well as nicotine but sometimes I just ask myself why I would really want to do that in this fricked up world. GenX were world class drinkers back in the day but that hangover hits different in your 50’s so I would imagine that it is tailing off somewhat with my generation.

Yeah, if you want to drink the good stuff. Get a Long Island Iced Tea with shitty alcohol like I used to.

The bottom line is that if declining drinking rates are just a byproduct of the increasing shift to online socialization, then the world didn’t become any better.

If people truly are finding new healthy and productive activities to socialize that don’t involve alcohol, I’m all for it. But I’m highly skeptical of the assumption that dry bars and pickleball are shifting drinking rates so much.

Alcohol has been the ultimate social stimulant for centuries. The most likely reason is that people are socializing less.

I'm part of this statistic. I went from 2-3 beers a day for more than a decade to 2-3 beers a week. Hangovers killed it for me. That, and I started microdosing psilocybin regularly, and that took all desire to drink away. It also took away my desire to get stoned often. I still party from time to time, but the day-to-day desire to ingest alcohol and thc is gone for me. Soda water and lime is good enough for me these days.
