the fact that a black youth gunned down a white adult is (tragically) not surprising. The fact that I haven't heard about it is appalling. I have to read about it in a British newspaper. Yet Trayvon Martin's death was covered ad nauseam by every news outlet in this country. yes, its a shitty double standard. Yeah, I'm mad.

Not making excuses, but it's more about poverty than race. There are major cities such as Boston and Chicago that have white ghettos that rival Watts and Harlem.

I've got a two year old, a wife and a baby on the way who all depend on me to provide for them. It breaks my heart just thinking about the position this guy put that family in. But I read the story and didn't see anything that implied that the shooting was racially motivated. It sounds like it was a murdering criminal being a murdering crimial. I know there are plenty of people of all races who think otherwise, but every crime of violence that involves two different races isn't a hate crime. Why add that label? Hearing that a freaking criminal just took a fmaily man away from his family is plenty enough to piss me off. Anways, thanks for sharing this story. We should all be praying for that family and hoping the killer gets what he deserves.

Oh my bad, it's because you haven't heard about it. I totally misunderstood the point you were trying to make.
I will say that this same crime happens hundreds of times a day in major cities all over the world that doesn't make your local Fox affiliate. But you feel like white people are getting the short end of the stick in this hate crime statistic, because you aren't hearing about some of them. Now I understand

The statistics prove differently. There are lots of poor white people in this country. They don't murder, rape, and steal at the rate of blacks. It's not even comparable.
In cities like New Orleans and Atlanta, blacks are committing 80% of violent crimes (nationally, it's 65%).

no, but I damn well hear about most, if not all, of the white on black incidents. Regardless of specifics, I sure do know the victims race. Funny it doesn't seem to be that common when the victim is white.
