I imagine there's a professional/dedicated cheer coach instead of a teacher who coaches part-time? Good bit of that $ probably goes to her.

So the cheer coach is a faculty member who gets a stipend paid directly by the cheer district. The team has Cheer PE so the coach gets to handle that, so it's like one less class they have to teach.

But, we pay for outside coaches or consultants or whatever you want to call them, who come in every summer and design several new routines, especially the competition routines. And yes, they are paid out of that money.

Some of the money also goes towards a strength and nutrition expert.

A chunk of the money also goes to the summer camp they go to.

We also pay (outside of this money) a monthly fee for weekly hour long tumbling lessons from a tumbling coach.

This cheer stuff has come a long way from the "Rah Rah Ree, Kick em in the knee" cheerleaders that were around when we were in school.

During the summer, school sport(s) should host:
1. Skeet Shoot
2. Golf Tournament

There are your funds.

Some do.

Very, very few schools give full scholarships. Most give between 2K and 5K a year. We know a few that have gone on to cheer at state schools in LA, and get TOPS, so basically the cheer scholarship covers their book money and some other expenses.

But the long term seems to be the play here. Every travel gym coach, every cheer routine coach and consultant, etc, all seem to have "cheered at XYZ University" on their resume. And there's a lot of money that route.

That takes work. It's much easier for an overworked coach to just sign up on a website for some company to run everything and give the team 60% of sales.

Now, if parents step up and volunteer to run a tournament or other event to raise money, you can raise a ton of money if done well.

When I was playing sports in school it was always either these coupon card things or selling Coke products.

They would have us go door to door selling those stupid cards, which I hated doing.

Agreed - but that’s on us as parents.

no its not, your concept is stupid. you buy in by practicing with the team and sweet equity, not getting your parents friends or your friends parents to donate

sorry coach, but you are wrong on this one. i think your heart is in right place, but your execution leaves alot to be desired imo.

problem is with so much of society...you are worried about how other people spend thier money and its effects on thier kids...
1) dont do that, its none of your business....
2) despite what this board likes to portray...kids from well off and upper middle class families end up doing much much better in society overall due to parent involvement and higher % of fathers in the home.

let the parents pay if they want, stop judging. sorry but if you come to me with a fundraiser, im writing the check because my time is way more valuable. on a cost per hour, raising money is a losing proposition for me.

It’s a shame that rather than have their kid do some work to support the team, the parents just bitch at the coach and write another check.

Emailing asking for cash isn’t work. We washed cars, sold Grit door to door and believe it or not had bake sales. We also sold two hour blocks where we would do any work asked at the contributor home-cut grass, clean a garage, paint, bang the wife.

And standing at an intersection with a boot and a yellow vest isn’t work either.

Its the female version of travel baseball.... pro coaches, choreographers, private tumble lessons, etc.

bro cheer is way way way more than travel baseball, same with competitive dance.

travel baseball aint that much unless you want it to be. and even then its pennies compared to cheer and dance.

only rodeo, golf and equistrian is more than cheer/dance.

In our case, we provided 20 friends’ emails but told them up front to ignore the emails, we just paid the amount expected up front to the team fund. I hade 14 years worth of funding payments, some overlapped, where sons played baseball at the HS and MS level.
I found out after a relative became an assistant coach that easily 25% of the players never paid a dime. Others’ donations and fundraisers essentially covered those non-payers.
