I really wish they would just put a price on playing the sport…instead of having my son submit emails of people to hit up for money. It’s a private school and this isn’t for playoffs or summer tournaments…the regular school sport.

If baseball costs an extra $450 or football cost $400 per kid to get the proper equipment then so be it. Make it known at tryouts and if some kids need help raising it…help them individually.

My son needs 20 ‘units’ for a sport…but units are just how many people that donated, whether that be $20 or $100. Doesn’t make any sense.

End of rant.

I mean…… you could just ask the coach “hey coach, can I give you $500 to leave me tf alone this season?”

They want the emails to use beyond the sports and seek fund raising perpetually from that email list.

You can just pay the fundraiser amount yourself and then it's the same exact thing as putting a price on playing the sport, no?

I mean just do 20 donations at $20 a piece if it's that much trouble. You get your $400 price tag and make Jr fill out the raffles or whatever with family members names and your phone number

They do all this without us knowing. There is no set price…just raise money from 20 sources, units.

I guess my son goes through his phone contacts, that we share…and gives them email addresses. Grandmothers, friends of mine…I just think it’s strange at a private school.

As a coach - I can tell you the intent is often to get the players to put some equity into the team.

So many these days are spoiled rotten because mommy and daddy will write the thousand dollar check for the latest gear, travel team, recruiting service, etc.

It’s a shame that rather than have their kid do some work to support the team, the parents just bitch at the coach and write another check.

It's so the white privilege kids can sell more to make up for the 0 that the scholarship players will sell.

Maybe if your son wasn't the best kicker in the state you wouldn't haven to worry about this. Sounds like you should be thankful.

Oh he’d be out there playing some other position.

I could see raising funds for something like the state tennis tournament they just went to…because that’s an unforeseen cost.

I just wish they gave us first chance at coming up with the money…then send the emails out if we can’t/don’t.

I ordered like $80 "worth" of popcorn a few weeks ago. I was expecting a truckload. It was 8 bags about the size of a bag of smart pop.

This one is MoneyDolly…and they $6 a transaction. So $120/kid at least.

We used to do car washes, contests, or some sort of promotion for funds.

Kids today just hold their hand out and ask for free money. I wouldn’t allow my kid to do that.

In this scenario , the kids are not doing any work so there is still no sweat equity when it comes to the funds, they are just providing emails/numbers so someone can hit the contacts up for money. Kids need to do a car wash or something, where they actually work if they can't afford the amount it cost to play

My HS baseball team had to do Donkey Basketball and sell tickets to raise money. Public 4A school (Prior to 5A)

The HS here has the highest travel budget of any in the country. Their closest district rival in football is 600 miles away.

but thats not what ends up happening.

you end having kids bugging the parents friends and family or bugging all the local business owners.

fine going to the business owners if you do business with them. in a small town atleast what happens is everyone ends up asking all the same business owners and most of the time the parents or the coaches dont even do business there.

same coaches want the business owners to support football, boys bball, girls bball, softball, baseball, track, volleyball, cheer, danceline/band.

sure its fine in city the size of BR but the smaller towns...the small businesses are tapped out.

just tell the parents up front how much it cost and offer advertising for the local businesses for the rest. much easier than trying to teach a life lesson that doesnt work. especialyl for younger kids who cant drive yet.
