Well, if the schools broke the law, yeah. But there will always be assholes and criminals in this world.
And if they are caught, hopefully they go to jail like this guy.

What did your commie God, Obama, do to fix what you think is broken. You’ve had 12 years of democrat party administration to fix whatever you are crying about since Bush left office.
Your party has failed American children more than No Child Left Behind ever could

Someone between their freshman and sophomore year.
Also, it could be a kid who earned AP credits in high school so it’s their 1st semester in college but are already almost a sophomore

Universities brought it on themselves when they allowed the SAT and ACT to be "optional" for admission.
Average test scores are down too. It’s a symptom of a larger problem.

t’s because there are shite loads of kids in public schools that are just being passed through because you essentially can’t fail someone.
This has been true for years, but something has drastically changed recently with these kids. It wasn’t like this a few years ago.

I am not in any party so there is no "my party".
In education policy, I prefer GOP policies (standards, discipline) over Democrat one's (DEI, Politics over Punctuation) and this has always been my view.
Ir I were a billionaire in a wealthy part of America I would open up a school like this. A test to enter, spare me your recommendations, essays and activities. You only get in by doing great on the test. If you have test anxiety too bad, you won't pass the bar exam, a CPA exam, so why should I let you in now? Go be a plumber,
And no extracuriculars, no sports, no yearbook, no cheerleading, no school plays. Do that outside of school.
School should be for academics only.

How can an average be down? Isn’t the bell curve the whole purpose for standardized tests?

LSU is just as bad as any of those places. I graduated many years ago. My engineering degree was one of the more difficult and we had 1 student my freshman year graduate with a 4.0 (university medalist) that year and the next one was my senior year and again only one.
Now there are multiple every year but kids are apparently just “smarter” now.

This thread is about Freshmen in college. No Child Left Behind was fully replaced in 2015.
I'll let you do the math.

It’s a crisis across the board. Our educational system is a joke and the brittle dam holding it up is going to collapse eventually.
You literally can’t fail kids. Teachers at my school cannot give zeroes and must grant retakes. We want to teach “learning and mastering standards.” Kids are too immature for it.
The entire educational platform needs to be reworked and we need to seriously reconsider how we are educating kids. Sticking a kid in a classroom and forcing them to memorize dates and crap serves 0 purpose. I get there are some thing you just have to know, but the majority of school is memorizing, regurgitating, and forgetting.

California decided their students didn’t need to attend school for 2 years. I’m sure that decision won’t have any repercussions at all..

This isn't the problem.
The problem is equity initiatives, which drag everyone down to the same, dumber level.
Here is one way they've been doing this in the south for far longer than DEI has been a thing: you can't have elementary school classes full of the high achieving students, because there aren't enough high achieving black kids. Therefore, everyone has to be split up evenly based on race and the high achieving students are forced to attend a class where they learn at the speed of the barely functioning.

I am happy to see UCSD putting this out. It is the least “progressive to be progressive” and most merit based academic school in the UC system. I’m sure many people would rather this data and report not come out. Nice to see one of the best schools in the country trying to stand up for academic integrity and admissions standards.
Colleges are not the place to remedy 12 years of flawed education. They are there to advance and develop great students into world class thinkers.
