There are countless scenes in movies where actors are pointing guns directly at someone, either in the shot or in someone's direction on the set.

Again, you are pretending to be an expert on the subject, but don't even care enough to know the details of this tragedy before assigning responsibility and blame.

I read that it was an accidental discharge will unholstering the weapon. That seems pretty far-fetched though.

I have a feeling a lot of what we see on the screen is creative camera angles. Maybe when it's unavoidable for whatever reason, they have to use props that can't fire.

Obviously speculating on a lot of this. I don't know much about the industry.

Sure. Between unions, guilds, complex organizational structures, the amount of money on the line, and the kind of risky activities that go on, they have to run a tight ship. In theory anyway.

He was acting in a movie, it’s called pretending. He was pointing at the camera to shoot that was part of the movie. Also the gun was supposed to be loaded just with blanks.

I know one thing, he certainly wasn't acting like a responsible gun owner would handling a weapon. I suppose he won't win a precious oscar on this role.

If he would have spent a little time learning how to properly handle a firearm (instead of goose step tweeting about Cheney and cops), he might not be in this predicament and no one would have been injured or lost their life.

But go on defending a scumbag, if it makes you happy.

Alec Baldwin didn’t run a tight ship unfortunately.

No he didn't. I imagine this incident has a lot of people in the business in quite a frenzy.

Sounds like bad casting, unless they are given some semblance of a firearms class, or experienced with firearms..

Just like dancing, riding a horse, playing a guitar or anything else a character is required to do, if it is critical to the scene they will be provided coaching to make it look real. My point is, whether it is explosives, helicopters, parachutes, rope rigging, the saddling of horses, and in this case firearms, it is not the responsibility of the actors to determine if they are safe, and the actors assume trained professionals have made their role as safe as possible, something that totally failed in the Baldwin situation.

Illusion.

Bryan Carpenter of Dark Thirty Film Services mentioned that, while the investigation is ongoing, there was a clear lack of respect for gun safety standards on the part of Baldwin, resulting in the death of one person and the injury of another Thursday. "Loaded or unloaded, a weapon never gets pointed at another human being,"

quote:

Carpmenter said is that the gun was "obviously pointed at another human being," by Baldwin, which breaks the most important safety rule for firearms use, on or off a Hollywood set: one is not supposed to point a gun at someone

Director of Killers

Two hard, fast rules of gun safety no matter what the realm. 1) Know what is in your firearm. 2) Never point at a person unless you possibly need to put them down.

This will never change.

I agree. And to make those things look real, they get actual practice and become comfortable with them.

Except, firearms. Hollywood treats them differently. A 24 year old non expert was put in charge.

At the end of the day the person shooting the weapon is responsible for checking if it is loaded or not no matter what they are told.

That’s not true. As silly as I think Baldwin is, if the reports are true he did nothing wrong. Actors are not checking the props they are handed; that is the job of someone hired specifically for that. IF THE REPORTS ARE TRUE, and if Baldwin didn’t misuse the gun, then this is entirely the fault of the weapons handler the film employed and/or the management team that might have hired an incompetent at a bargain price. And in spite of Baldwin having a trumped up title, he is not management.

Pointing at someone?

Hiring an inexperienced "expert?"

Ignoring previous safety issues, including live fire?

Nah, he's at fault to some degree. He was careless. If protocols were done correctly, even with live ammo she would be alive.

Well, guess who the management was?

He was playing with a gun capable of killing someone. Which he did. Pure negligence and ignorance in firearm handling.

He is the operator of the gun.

As asked before,” Why do you have live rounds on a set ?”

No diff then saying Baldwin isn’t at fault without knowing the situation.

But this is a message board where people speculate and argue about it.

But, we do know he pulled the trigger.
